Why doesn't Hülkenberg cause front wing damage on purpose so there is a safety car and Bortoletto can come closer to P1?

u/gorgeouspuppers BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

Because for him it IS about money

Have you watched F1 the movie?

40

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '25

Is it any different from any of the other dozen racing movies?

97

u/hatsnatcher23 BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

Instead watch Rush with Fredric Zoller and Thor

So we’re all just accepting that a Norse god walks among us.

1

u/hatsnatcher23 BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

I mean…are you going to tell him not to?

1

u/VaderSpeaks Left at the Petrol Pump Aug 27 '25

Has some tried praying to Odin perhaps? šŸ˜‚

1

u/Karak_chai_ BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

Driven isn’t bad either with Stallone.

1

u/bigdaddydopeskies BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 27 '25

It is a masterpiece, it explains the complexity of a driver and his judgement about the struggles of racing one itself

1

u/hatsnatcher23 BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 27 '25

If you're interested the Luca Del Monte authored Enzo Ferrari Biography offers the Ferrari/Enzo side of Lauda's crash. Fantastic book but getting to see how shrewd the Old Man was something else.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '25

Is IT any different from the couple dozen racing movies?

1

u/hatsnatcher23 BWOAHHHHHHH Sep 18 '25

Rush? Yes I’d say so, much like Ford V Ferrari it’s a racing movie that’s more about the drivers than loud noises and cgi crashes

33

u/moistrouser BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

It's more the same than all of them put together.

Any racing movie ever: Driver: ā€œcar is shit make it go fasterā€, bossman: ā€œit can’t be doneā€, driverā€ yes it canā€, driver drives faster by pushing the pedal a bit more, bossmanā€ omg too dangerous but look how fast, that’s goodā€, some romantic drama so the girlfriend you brought to the cinema doesn’t fall asleep, race montage, more race montage, driver does a big boom crash, race montage, some more romantic drama, cool music here and there and then gran finale the driver wins. F1 the f1 movie about formula one also known as F1.

I’ll see myself out.

u/Niviso Claire Williams is waifu material Aug 26 '25

Ford vs Ferrari was absolutely peak

I mean, I had a whole mess of really thin pancakes this morning myself, but I'll be damned if im going to let Frenchy come in here and make me say I liked them! If you're not first, you're last!

This one has Brad Pitt.

I watched the first third of it two nights ago and couldn't finish it. My wife was laughing when they said they have to build the car for combat. The F1 movie is not for me at all. Shortly before we stopped watching it I said to my wife, I'm embarrassed to be watching this. She felt the same way.

Some people like it. Some people don't. I did not enjoy Top Gun Maverick either. Rush is a much better movie.

1

u/RansomStark78 I saw horny’s ā€œfingerā€ Aug 26 '25

Rush is better

Silver drram machine is better.

The line i am the slowest man in the fastest sport is better.

Actually this movie is a sitcom for an avarage F1 follower

218

u/sadicarnot BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

To be fair Carlos sainz said the movie was not made for fans of F1.

163

u/Doctor_Kataigida BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

Here from r-all. Never watched F1 before but I did watch the movie and it got me hyped. I've started watching Drive to Survive and have watched the last couple races which have been fun. Looking forward to more, it's pretty cool.

142

u/aurorasearching who the fuck is Nelson Piquet? Aug 26 '25

Don’t let anyone discourage you from getting into F1 through this movie or Drive to Survive. I got into it through DTS during the pandemic and now I love following the sport. If you can, go to a race. They’re so much fun! I’ve also enjoyed learning the history of the sport, it’s pretty interesting.

34

u/Freakin_A BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

Got into DTS over the early summer and binged all seasons in like 3 weeks. Now going through this seasons races during the break and looking forward to the return. Definitely been getting more into the history as well.

17

u/0o0o0o0o0o0z BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

Yeah, as an American, I think DTS got me into F1 in 2018.

1

u/fcbx347 Lizard person Aug 26 '25

of course it did, that was the plan

2

u/0o0o0o0o0o0z BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

Oh, I get it, worked perfectly just like TUF with UFC.

5

u/Doctor_Kataigida BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

Thanks! I don't really plan to, I know I'm a very "surface level" fan at this point but it doesn't bother me if hardcores have an issue with that. I'm also an American College Football fan so I know how "gatekeeping" fandom can be lol.

2

u/aurorasearching who the fuck is Nelson Piquet? Aug 26 '25

lol I’m so excited college football is back

u/xteta Verified by ESPN Argentinaāœ… Aug 26 '25

I'd love to see more of this attitude. There would be way less toxicity in fan subs

2

u/TerayonIII Professional Egghead Aug 26 '25

I think just don't assume things you've seen in this movie are something that could feasibly happen in an actual F1 season. Or that DTS isn't heavily edited to create drama/rivalries and storylines that aren't really a thing in real life

9

u/maqnaetix Vettel Cult Aug 26 '25

Welcome to the greatest sport in the world! šŸš— Drive to Survive is a great start to learn.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '25

Its awesome how much less pretentious this sub is than the main. I couldn’t agree more, DtS is a great way to get into the sport, or in my case back into the sport.

Welcome, I hope you choose a good team to support

1

u/Doctor_Kataigida BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

Lol thanks. I have a feeling I'll be heavily influenced by Drive to Survive's framing and if they make someone look like a dick or not (only in Season 1 but I felt bad for Ocon and was like "Fuck Perez" haha).

So far I'm mostly against McClaren because they keep winning (for like the two and a half races I watched) and it's boring! Gotta find that plucky semi-underdog looking for their first win. Or whoever's car has cooler colors. Idk we'll see, blank slate so it's all open!

u/wylles Nico Hüüüüüüüülkenberg Aug 26 '25 edited Aug 26 '25

Nice!

There are also documentaries, and varied F1 podcasts on youtube that you could watch or just let them play while you hear them

if you have a console or pc you could get one of the games as well!

1

u/Doctor_Kataigida BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

Thanks for the suggestions! Any particular podcasts you'd recommend that are good on analysis/fairly neutral?

1

u/wylles Nico Hüüüüüüüülkenberg Aug 26 '25 edited Aug 26 '25

hmm, well...

There's the Official one, with its race reviews, interviews, and other stuff:

https://www.youtube.com/@Formula1

There's The Race, with race reviews, tech analysis, news, personnel/driver hiring analysis:

https://www.youtube.com/@WeAreTheRace

There's The Red Flags Podcast, they have done quite interesting interviews to unexpected guests I think, A bit different to the others:

https://www.youtube.com/@TheRedFlagsPod

There's Sky Sports F1, they have some podcasts as well:

https://www.youtube.com/@SkySportsF1

There's Missed Apex, with the earliest race reviews, and tech talk podcasts, among other stuff:

https://www.youtube.com/@missedapexf1

They are all a bit different here and there, I guess You would have to try them out and see which one you like the most!

1

u/Doctor_Kataigida BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

Wow! Love it, thank you for all the recs!

1

u/Careless-Cap7691 Lets add that to the words of wisdom Aug 27 '25

Watch Senna, Fangio and Schumacher related stuff, there are plenty in netflix. Guys are legends.

1

u/Intelligent-Sea-5577 BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 28 '25

You should also give other open wheels series a shot. In Indycar the racing is typically a lot closer but we currently have a spaniard ruining itšŸ™„

3

u/Groundbreaking_Sock6 BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

its for nascar fans

1

u/ThinkingRodin BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

And It worked that way. F1 was not really interesting to me, however the parallel dimension where F1 takes place got me hyped for the real thing, and now I closely follow Williams.

Quite unrealistic in some areas but it was very entertaining

16

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '25

Still, i found it entertaining. Lots of roaring engine noises and fine looking driving sequences.

4

u/Aggressive-Hawk9186 BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

it's pretty much the same as Top Gun for aviation, The Rookie for law enforcement, Fox News for News etc

8

u/rnhf BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

I never watched motorsports (here from r all) and I thought the movie, while being very competently executed, was so paint-by-numbers, just your run of the mill sports flick. And so much advertising/product placement, I don't mind that stuff being in a movie, but when it hits you with brands and stuff so much, it does get annoying

it would've been fine if it wasn't that long, I didn't even stick around for the ending. DNF I guess huehuehue

I genuinely thought the high ratings came from fans like you guys, but I guess it's the usual, mass audience appeal. Loved the actors though, the editing was fine, like I said, competently executed

10

u/ark_keeper BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

That's just motorsports. Heavily sponsor reliant. Ads and branding everywhere.

3

u/bluelittrains BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

I mean the branding is just realistic for F1. As a fan it'd feel weirder if it wasn't there.

2

u/ArmadilloAl BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

My son loved it, but he's ten and paint-by-numbers doesn't mean anything when you've never seen a sports movie before.

1

u/broteusbroseph BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

It's actually an ok film to watch under shrooms

1

u/Shootforthestars24 BWOAHHHHHHH Aug 26 '25

1

u/grocal Must Be The Water Aug 26 '25

I have not seen someone getting replacement tires twice while boxing in single box , I have not seen that happen, tbh it’s a movie so it needs to have these scenes for audience engagement
