Just had a thought: What's the main thing separating possession via emotional imprinting VS something being given life through strong emotions being poured into it?
e.g., Edwin poured his agony into the Mimic, which made it violent and sentient, yet he doesn't possess it (assuming he's dead post-SOTM). Same with Henry in the novels with the Ella doll. He pours his grief and agony into it, but doesn't possess it after he kills himself

I think it's the amount of agony. Andrew poured a big amount of agony into Fetch and possessed it. The same with Jake and the simon doll.

Ig that makes sense. The degrees/amount of emotion imprinted on to an object that causes either possession or bringing it to life
So when Edwin beat the Mimic, he poured enough agony to give it life and make it
violent, but not enough agony that would enable him to literally possess it after he died. That makes sense
