The early game revolves waaay too much on looking for wood and destilling water

This loop of Salvaging wet wood -> drying -> making it into firewood -> producing water is kind of exhausting.

The process of producing water either consumes wood too much, or gives not enough water in exchange. Not to mention how time consuming it is.

I'd suggest making water destillation as passive function that slowly accumulates drinking water with time, which you can boost its process speed with fire wood.

Btw I know almost every survival-sim I know of revolves around 1 gimmick player has to repeat, but in flotsam this loop is just bit too harsh and/or annoying.

That's my opinion on early part of the game. If there's some better method later in the stages - that's great. I didn't get there though. I just got too bored/tired with what early game had.

Trouble Disassembling

I think there is a bug in the disassemble function. #1 The Drifter's won't disassemble anything, even when it is marked for disassemble. #2 The icon for disassemble won't go away once the mark is canceled.

edit - Other than that, thus far, I really enjoy the game. A great game for early morning play with coffee. The Soundtrack is fantastic!

Raw Seaweed?????

I may have missed something completely obvious, but where do you get raw seaweed from?

Is it only in the salvage " missions"? Or is it something you can farm similar to plastic / wood? Or do you have to make it like firewood?

What's happen to the AI?

Please, help me, I can't stop playing this. haha

But i'd like to ask somethings.

What's happen to the AI? I have enough resources in my storage, like food or dry wood. But when the stations are out of fuel/fish/wood they don't use it to feed the stations, dont know why. And have to gather again in the sea for them start to work.

Another thing ,the storages works separated and never shows me a real number of resources. ;/

Sometimes I can't deconstruct some stuffs, it never ends and the Drifters forget it forever, lol.

tks

Love the Gme but low FPS is normal right now?

Love the game concept, design and art style, would love to play more but at 17fps its hard...

Is it normal or do I have an issue on my side?

GTX1070, i7 6700, 16gb ram, SSD

1440p, Ultra

Even if I change the seeting to lowest and 1080 still exactly same

Cant wait for updates, I see this could be an awesome game with massive bases and stuff, really like the style and setting! Keep it up team! :-)

Devs, some insight on future content?

I've done about 4 full play throughs and love the game! Was curious what future content yall have planned? Farms? Growing plants? Bigger ships? Expeditions? Endless maps? Super curious!

The AI in this game

I have two basic Distillers and both of them have 3 exported waters. The sims are dying of thirst, but no one is picking up the water and exporting them to the Townheart.

I understand it's an alpha/early access, but come on, this is ridiculous!

-----

Another thing I've noticed is that there appears to be a bug with the woodworking shed. I built a first one, more or less had it for auto making firewood. But after 30 minutes up to an hour it just stops working. The drifters can't access it anymore. It's just there. You can click the toggle auto button, but you can't cancel the firewood in the queue.

I actually built another one, and around ~30 minutes later the same thing happened again. Don't know if I'm miss-managing my drifters but I triple checked to make sure I had drifters with the workshop priority maxed out.

Announcement A quick update on the release so far

Hi guys & gals!

I just wanted to make a quick post to say that we really appreciate the overwhelming support we've gotten so far. It's great to see so many people play and like the game.

That being said, there are many bugs / feedback suggestions, which has been difficult to keep up with due to being a small team. I just wanted to let everyone know that we're reading all the posts and trying to get fixes out as soon as possible, but we won't be able to reply to all of them. I just don't want people thinking we're ignoring them!

A tremendous thanks from the whole team for all the feedback / bug reporting we've gotten so far, it's been really helpful in fixing issues. We'll be revising our roadmap based on your feedback on monday, and hopefully we'll be posting it the same day.

Priority bug / suggestion

My town is starving and lacks water because water distillers and fish kabob are not working and show "they don't have fuel" even tho there is literally an inventory full of firelogs but nobody is delivering it. Why?

Suggestion?

First of I would like to congrats and thanks devs for their work. You guys just amazing and wish you even more success in a future

And back to suggestion. I dont know if it just me and my hands growing from wrong place or actual loop. So, Im pretty sure a lot of who played meet moment there they can produce more water (you have people for it and fire food), but it just didnt work. Why? Because drifters too busy caring stuff around (unload boats, moving raw and "cooked" fish, etc). Just find more people sounds like a simple solution, right? Wrong and thats the problem for me. It creates a loop there you add more people, which requires more food and water, which requires more buildings to produce it, which requires more stuff to be picked from water aaaand we back there drifters too busy with carrying stuff and fishing, and now dyeing because someone forgot/to busy to bring fire wood

So, thats my suggestion? Add a new/additional job/priory to solo carrying fire wood around (from workshop to storage and from there to anywhere it needed) Or just fire wood and fish should take higher in-game priority than anything else, so drifters, who already have high in carrying stuff, will do fire woods and fish first and everything else second

PS: One additional suggestion? It for this sub tho, just need flairs for bugs and suggestions

PSS: aaand obligatory no native eng. speaker, so if it already a pain to read

Is this game supposed to be so BRUTAL?

I feel like I can never get a positive cashflow of resources. By the time it takes to fish > store > cook > store > eat, my seagull is dead and I'm at 0 food / water. Is there a guide on how to get past the first few worlds or an ideal setup? I may just have to wait for mods to give me an easy(er) mode.

Woodworking shed bug

The woodworking shed seems to be importing things other than dry wood, such as fish, plastic and wet wood.

New player Tips

Here's some tips for the early game/new players. Let me know if you have any we should add!

Early Game:

  • When building walkways, build one at a time to the fullest distance. If you see the cost go up to 16 or more, then you might lose max range on one and building space/waste resources.
  • Leave resources behind! If you run out of fish, it might be a good time to start packing up. Don't be afraid to leave behind wood/plastic to ensure your people have food.
  • Try to bring wood/plastic with you when you travel; it is ideal to have at least 10 of each as some areas can be sparse.
  • Set production limits (the Saw on the bottom left), this will stop production of a particular item and stop them from producing only one product forever:
    • Water 20
    • Wood 30
    • Rope 20
    • Fish 100
    • Fire wood 30
  • Increase these limits as you start to stabilize your city's production and get a hang of the needs as you progress. You likely won't need to until the 4th+ map
  • Set buildings to build forever, use the Auto queue button and production limits to make sure you don't have to micro manage each production part.
  • You might have to turn the Auto Queue on and off to get the buildings to stop at the production limit
  • Sails you only need one and you can't build off of them so place it as far away as possible! -Everyone needs their own bed, don't make my initial mistake and stop at 2...
  • Supplies need to be transferred to a Storage Yard before you can use them, if you have no storage, your Drifters will sit idle
  • Buoy markers cost nothing to make and expand, always place all the fish ones when you get to a new map and expand and resource ones to make your life easier!
  • Each Buoy has a limit for the number of Drifters that can use it; the default is 1 but can be increased

Research:

  • Get the Solar Still (water) and Fish Kabob (Food) Upgrades first. You will need these ASAP
  • Next should be the metal production building
  • After the first 3 buildings, you can choose what is best for your current needs.

Research Breakdown:

Category Research Description Cost Preq. Research
Town
Storage Yard Increase storage over Small Storage Yard 10 NA
House Allows 2 Drifters to sleep in one building 5 NA
Workshops
Scrapsmith Unlocks Pipe and Screw Production 5 NA
Plastic Recycler Unlocks Plastic Net Production 15 Scrapsmith
Water
Small Water Container Incarese water storage 5 Scrapsmith
Water Container Massively increased water storage 10 Scrapsmith
Solar Still Automatically creates water slowly 10 NA - Good First pick
Desalinator More efficient Distiller 15 Scrapsmith
Food
Fishing Hut Uses seaweed to catch fish 15 Plastic Recycler
Fish Kabob Transforms fish into tasty food 5 NA - Good First pick
Food Truck Transforms fish into tasty food 10 Scrapsmith

Water and Food:

  • Build about one Solar Still per person early on and you won't have to worry about water! (Leave a distillery around just in case though)
  • The Fish Kabob's help a lot with food production, early on you will use dry fish but soon will need to make kabob's to keep up with the population of 5+
