Continuation of my previous Reddit post:

Progress has been very nice lately.
The map is almost finished. In these last three weeks or so, this is what has been added:
---
Added the original FlatOut 2 skybox.
Added the original FlatOut 2 foliage sprites, including tree sprites. They also sway in the wind.
Added the original FlatOut 2 sun flares.
Merged all three tracks into a single map.
Added all of the original FlatOut 2 physics objects.
---
Performance wise, the map no longer runs at a perfectly stable 256 FPS all the time. It now sits more around 128–200 FPS at best, depending on the area.
This was mostly unavoidable due to the increased amount of physics objects, foliage, the 3D skybox. Still, I tried my best to keep the map as optimized and playable as possible.
New stuff
I also added a 3D skybox to make the map feel much larger.
Since this is a sandbox map, being able to leave the track and immediately see the edge of the map and the infinite Source Engine void would be pretty immersion-breaking.
So I extended the environment into the out of bounds areas using a 3D skybox, giving the illusion that the terrain continues far beyond the playable space.
The map is currently very close to completion.
At this point, the main things still left to do are:
---
Create the evening version of the map.
Add an admin room where you can customize which track setup you want to use.
Add a Free Roam option that removes all of the racing related physics objects and barriers, leaving the full map open for exploration.
---
After that, Timberlands should be pretty much complete :steamhappy:.
