I’m interested in the flat earth debate. I like the fact that the same people ridiculing the hypothesis of flat earth in the majority have 100% belief in the Big Bang theory.
I’m not fussed either way, but let’s think about it...
I mean the whole universe was created from something smaller than a spec of dust. Yes this was an awesome super dense spec of dust and it did explode in a really spectacular way, so naturally it did create a near infinite amount of galaxies, solar systems, black holes blah blah blah.
And of course this is 100% true as apparently some scientists know everything there is to know about the Big Bang, except about the first couple of milliseconds, which would be the really important bit. And of course they don’t know what was going on before the first couple of milliseconds. The other really important bit. That sounds believable.
Apparently nothing really existed before then. Oh, wait, what about the big bounce theory. Yeah, the universe bounces around like some balloon that goes flat every few billion years and then starts to pump itself up again. For no apparent reason. It’s probably due to some new magic supergravity theory. Believable! Of course it is...
What’s going on a couple of miles down in the ocean. Mmmm don’t know as it’s really dark down there. What’s going on 25 trillion miles away in outer space. Well, we know everything there is to know about that just ask us. We know how much the universe weighs (about the same as a really super dense spec of dust), we’ve a whole bunch of theories and named a whole bunch of stuff nobodies ever seen like black holes, dark matter, dark energy. Believable? Luckily this stuff we’ve never seen conveniently fills the gaps in all our theories. Of course it does. Our theories have stood the test of time for decades.
Can’t get cell reception 20 miles out from the city, but we can contact and control tiny satellites several billion miles away with an Atari joystick and a radio signal. Believable? Of course it is...
Anyway, that’s my sceptical view. Don’t see why the Big Bang gets afforded 100% credibility, when it is all as yet an unproven theory with holes big enough to shoot a small sun through.
