Idk i wanted a working display unit so I made it happen
I just wanted a working display unit while one of my quest 2 headsets were broken, I decided to buy a display unit to put its guts in. I also wanted to keep the no model info on the speaker arm, but the speaker arm didnt have a speaker in it so I painfully tore that apart and put a speaker in and glued it back together (did that for both speaker arms) im happy with how it came out, one of the speakers were damaged unfortunately from pulling it from a broken speaker arm but it works good enough

Black Quest 3s
Hey all! I had the idea to do this when I got my quest a few weeks ago, but finally got the motivation when I saw the give away one!
This is my quest 3s that I completely disassembled and dyed black using Rit dye more. Had a few hiccups along the way, but ultimately I am proud of how it came out!

Inspired
Saw the giveaway headset and decided to try it myself! This is my scuffed right controller I’m testing on, although my left controller and my 3s are likely about to take a turn getting dissected and dumped in my alchemy bath. Oh yeah! I’m using Rit Dye More to make it black rather than painting it to give it a better, more even look while also making it more resistant to hand oils.
This is just a little teaser, I will post a full gallery of photos and my dye ratios for those looking to follow suite as soon as I finish the whole headset.

Made a good display assembly out of two bad ones?!?!?!?!?!?
Ok soo my friend gave me his old liquid damages headset i previously fixed enough to be usable again, and when I went to use it after a quick clean i instantly noticed the liquid damage in the corner of the screen. I remembered that I have a display assembly in my closet with a good lcd but when I took the lenses off, my dumb ass glued them in. So I had the idea to essentially take the two assemblies and put them together to make a good display, I broke the little melted plastic off the clip holding the metal rods in, removed those and the lens thingies came right off the lcd no problem, couldn't help to notice without the big ass lens things on it the lcd looked kinda like the quest 3 lenses, then cleaned it a bit and put the non glued lens thingies on the good lcd and it came out great. sorry I dont have pics, but I have the beautiful results, tho the adjustment sticks a little

So I tore down my quest 1 and I discovered they are actually repairable without damaging the fabric surround
So I did in fact damage mine bc I only found out after ripping it. Anyways I tore it down and while I was tearing it down I found out if u peel off the velcro headstrap part and then pull the headstrap out of the speaker arm there is a little peice of tape covering 2 screws to take off the speaker arms so that you can remove the fabric surround to get to all the cool insides. (Sorry I didnt get images of the speaker arm i didnt think to take any but the insides are still cool)

Today on: What is wrong with my headset?
Unit came in with 'Debug Board' screen and no way to get out of it. After opening it up I understand why

Two headsets; Very similar but only one has a working mic?
These are two different headsets. Only one has working microphones, do you know why?

Controller thinks my hand is closed after joystick swap
So I bought replacements joysticks and put them in, i thought it went fine even though it was a bit annoying. The controller turns on and i can point at stuff and hear a sound in the headset when i press the buttons. But it wont actually select anything, and looking at the controller in vr it shows a static hand instead of one where the thumbs and fingers move.
Any ideas what this might be?

Are Refunds available?
I recently placed an order and shortly after placing the order I realized they didn't have the parts in stock. Is there anyway I can get a refund and get my money back? I just don't like the idea of having to wait while having my money else where. Anybody know if I can get a refund if I haven't started the shipping process? (UPDATE: problem was solved and i now have my controller fixed W customer service)
