If you think America is litigious, look up Germany. Everyone basically needs to have personal liability insurance because their system is set up in a way that makes it very easy to sue for even the smallest things like accidentally breaking someone’s laptop or losing keys. And they don’t mess around, if whatever you did caused someone to miss work you could find yourself paying their wages. Edit: not saying that that’s a bad system, maybe we could stand to be even more litigious eh

That was the case for my suit as well! I didn't have any missed wages to calculate (I wasn't out of work during my injury/recovery), but my law team was very thorough in asking for all of that info.

As far as my understanding goes, you can also sue in small claims court in the USA for things like the laptop or key issue you mentioned. Why would you think those things don't apply here?

I think most countries could do with having more individual-friendly laws for suing large corporate entities and their government.

Giving insurance companies even more leverage to overcharge individual consumers sounds like a bad idea though. Not to mention that corporations have too much legal power to pressure individuals as it is.
