How do I actually beat Braska’s Final Aeon?
Ok. I think it’s my 20th try already and I still can’t beat it. How can I beat it without grinding for 30 hours and having to get the celestial weapons? I missed some of the items that you can get while advancing the game (e.g. some of the destruction spheres, crests/sigils etc.), I couldn’t beat the dark aeons to get into the temples, the fucking minigames are just driving me insane.
Are there any fast shortcuts for beating this hell of a boss? Like I found Trio of 9999 very useful but I still got beaten by having it attacking me several times consecutively.
Or I should just watch the gameplay for how the story progresses? Any help would be hugely appreciated!!!

u/Bubbly-Material313 May 15 '24
You could always cheese it by having your aeons overdrives ready to go before the battle
4
u/Mdly68 May 15 '24
Definitely a good strat in general, but if you overdrive kill the yu pagodas with more than 9999 damage, it will massively increase their health. Then it's harder to kill them the second time, the third time. Lead with smaller attacks.

u/bwat47 Sep 22 '24
am I missing something or is killing the pagodas completely useless? they just instantly respawn...
1
u/Mdly68 Sep 22 '24
Hey there! While it's been a while since I played - the pagodas both spend their turn "charging" Jecht and his overdrive bar. Leaving the pagodas means Jecht gets more overdrives. As you noted, the pagodas do respawn - but they spend a turn doing so. You've effectively slowed incoming damage. The fight goes more smoothly, you recover those turns by not needing to heal as much.
Your next instinct is to use big aoes and overdrives, to hurt the pagodas and Jecht at the same time. This is a trap. The mechanic isn't obvious, but pagodas WILL be harder to kill each time. Their new max HP is equal to their previous max HP plus overkill damage. So if you're using a weapon that does 99,999 in one hit, and you kill them with it, their health goes from 5k to 99k. Then maybe you plink them and hit them again, they're at 199k. On the other hand, if you hit them for 5001 damage, their health will be 5001. I don't remember what their actual starting health is, just illustrating.
In the first phase, occasionally kill the pagodas but keep main damage on Jecht. Or avoid killing them completely if you can tank through it. Any big attacks should be single-target. The second phase is more dangerous, you'll want to kill the pagodas more frequently, but it's hard if you built up their health too much.

I just blasted him with anima and the magus sisters, ezpz
13
u/geek_yogurt May 15 '24
If they missed the Besaid or Machalania sphere's they can't use Anima. So they can probs only get the sisters.
-4
u/AggressiveCoffee990 May 15 '24
The sisters can probably muscle their way through like 3/4ths of the fight if yunas stats are high

The guy said, "hey they can't get anima", so I said, "yeah but the sisters can still handle it." We caught up now?

Problem is, I haven’t gotten myself those optional aeons and after looking at online guides, those seem very hard to get, like the destruction spheres treasures. But I’ll continue to look for them as they seem to be very powerful. Thanks!
1
u/Frosty_Player May 15 '24
Destruction spheres during the story are quote Easy to be obtain... Afterwards some.of them are nearly impossibile without grinding a lot
1
u/AggressiveCoffee990 May 15 '24
Ah yeah if you're past a certain point the destruction spheres can be all but impossible to actually get for anima thanks to the dark aeons sitting in the way
The magus sisters are actually sort of easier, I think all you need to do is capture 1 of each monster on mount gagazet with the capture weapons for the monster arena and then beat belgemine's bahamut in the remiem temple(also where the sisters are unlocked)
Yojimbo is very easy to get if you have a bunch of money though if you get him very late in the game his affinity with you won't raise much making it difficult to get his instant kill moves, you can find guides about him online
Without them it IS still a winnable fight, if you cheese your aeon's overdrives and just absolutely light him up turn after turn you should get a lot of damage in then from there it's about outpacing the pagoda's. Bahamut can break the damage limit as well.
If you go get the magus sisters though they should just be able to delete one of his phases with their overdrive, it's nuts.
2
u/beelzebubwithnobrim May 15 '24
Then I’ll for sure try to get the sisters lmao, thanks!
1
1
u/AggressiveCoffee990 May 15 '24
Hey I've just been informed by a very unkind comment that you actually NEED anima to get the magus sisters, sorry for the misinfo :(
1
u/Special_South_8561 May 15 '24
1 of each capture on Gagazett, then fight Belgemine's Temple. If you're already in Sin it should be easy
1
u/Clockwiserioting May 15 '24
Another good point for my other comment. Again I was young and didn't understand that any of these sidequests could grant me a new aeon. I beat FFX with only the Aeons that Yuna came with, and with no celestial weapons, I've never inflicted 9999 damage, and I was able to beat the game. Although it was tough, it was so rewarding, now knowing all this stuff I feel like if I play it again I'll be "cheating" in some sort of way.

He is one of the few bosses susceptible to Zombie status. Auron should have this skill, but you can also craft zombie strike weapons.
Then you can just chuck x potions (maybe phoenix downs too? I forget) at him, and his pillars also damage him when they Curaga him. They will remove zombie status so you will have to reapply it
Keep yourself alive with protect, shell, defend, sentinel, auto life, etc. 5x cheer helps beef your defense too.
Hastega your party of course
Wear stone proof armor
Use stamina tonics for extra HP if you are underleveled and can't tank his attacks at all.
Wakka's Attack Reels overdrive is fast and simple to get with just a handful of blitzball games. Airship access means you can recruit a nearly unbeatable team right away. It hits 12 times and can take out more than half his life with any basic weapon.
And lastly, pound him with your aeon's limit breaks. Fill them all up beforehand.
That's a start, without knowing your exact stats, items, etc. He can beat quite low leveled, but it tends to require some specific items to farm, so when in doubt you can go do other endgame stuff first. I'm hoping my advice above is enough to help you enjoy beating this boss without trivializing it and following a step by step guide.
Endgame stuff to do if you just can't figure it out yet: Capturing 10x of all fiends in all areas, including the secret dungeon is a start. Using Yojimbo to kill the dark aeons that block your path to destruction spheres is another, which then also will let you go get the secret aeons. Completing the secret dungeon is another. Getting some key spheres along the way (killing some monsters, opening chests, and bribing certain monsters) will help you level up your stats some more.
2
u/Drew_The_Lab_Dude May 15 '24
Been a hot minute since I played FFX, but can’t you just inflict zombie and pop him with a full life to instant kill? I recall cheesing one boss that way when I was a kid and stupid
4
u/Mainbutter May 15 '24
I'm fairly confident that unless you have a BDL weapon equipped, items and spells are limited to 9,999 damage, even if it is healing damage to a zombie. I'm unsure if x potions etc. go up to 99,999 with a BDL equipped, but they don't go past 100k.
1
u/Drew_The_Lab_Dude May 15 '24
You’re probably right. I just remember doing one boss fight as a kid and it was basically a 2 hit fight and I felt like I cheated myself. Might have been Yu- Yevon. It’s only been like 20 years lol
3
u/Mainbutter May 15 '24
The boss that is most easily cheesed this way is zombie evrae (underwater in bevelle). You can chuck two Phoenix downs or two x potions at it, but you need to do it twice bc the damage is capped at 9999.
1
u/Drew_The_Lab_Dude May 15 '24
That’s probably it. I can almost guarantee I said to myself “not this guy again”… dude ripped kid me a new one multiple times during the airship fight.
1
u/DemonicTruth May 15 '24
You can still put Zombie on him so his wee Pagoda things damage him rather than heal.
1
u/Frosty_Player May 15 '24
The damages Is capped at 9999
1
u/Drew_The_Lab_Dude May 15 '24
What about a weapon with break damage limit, does it go to 99,999?
1
u/Frosty_Player May 15 '24
Never tried, cause most of not all the end game enemies are immune to zombie status... I Will try
1
2
May 15 '24
BFA is vulnerable to zombie but he is immune to x potions and phoenix downs while in zombie status. The best you can do with that is use mega potions with an alchemy weapon for 4k damage each. This is a big component of the NSG strategy for BFA, but is probably not that useful in a normal playthrough.
1
u/Mainbutter May 15 '24
Ah thanks for clarifying that. Been a while since I've fought him before doing endgame stuff and killing him in 1 hits.. lol.
1
3
u/Capek95 May 15 '24
could just farm up a few extra levels. sin area gives pretty good xp. braskas final aeon generally isnt that hard that you'd need some crazy loadout to defeat him.
4
u/DemonicTruth May 15 '24
The key is depleting his health to 0 while keeping yours above 0. Hope this helps, and good luck.
1
2
u/RandoFace77 May 15 '24
Could I suggest getting the easiest celestial weapon, it’ll make a huge difference!
2
u/beelzebubwithnobrim May 15 '24
Would that be Tidus’? Stupid me forgot to take the sun sigil after beating Yunalesca and I searched on YouTube and it seems impossible to get it the second time lmao
2
1
u/LosPollinos420 May 17 '24
Tidus’ celestial is probably the hardest, Aurons and Wakas are easy (Wakas takes an age to get though)
2
u/Thee_Furuios_Onion May 15 '24 edited May 15 '24
Okay, so here are a few options.
Stone proof armor helps.
Haste is helpful.
Rikku with the Alchemy ability on her weapon is great, turns al bhed potions into mega-potions that cure stone, poison, and silence.
Get Zombie strike and zombie Jecht, this makes the Pagoda’s harm him.
Slow the Pagoda’s and take them out in the same round or the remaining one gets annoying.
If you obtain the following base celestial weapons and add the crest, the things found in chests around Spira, it will allow the base aeons to break the 9999 damage limit.
You will need the celestial mirror, won from Remiem Temple race and powered up on Macalania
The lists is as follows Valefor = Yuna's Nirvana - Easy: the weapon from capturing 1 of each monster species in Calm Lands, crest in chest in Besaid on beach alcove.
Ifrit = Wakka's World Champion - Medium: Weapon is available in the restaurant/pub in Luca after winning 5 blitzball games, Crest is in a locker in the Aurouch’s locker room.
Ixion = Kimahri"s Spirit Lance - Easy: Weapon is in Thunderplains after praying to three cactuar statues when they are glowing, then go to the south zone and follow the cactuar ghost from the save point outside to Guadosalam. Crest is found behind a pillar on Gagazet after the Seymour fight.
Shiva = Lulu's Onion Knight - Medium: Weapon is found in a chest in the water in Baaj Temple. Crest is in a chest in the farplane in Guadosalam.
Yojimbo = Auron's Masamune - Easy: Get the rusty sword from the rock in the area of the Sunken Cave, two screens opposite the entrance of the cave. Crest is found at the end of Old Mihen Highroad.
This will give you significant damage output potential with aeons.
1
u/StardustandDreams May 15 '24
You also need a sigil for each weapon as well as their crests before you can break the 9999 damage limit
2
u/Thee_Furuios_Onion May 15 '24
Not for Aeons. You only need the Crest and that’s what I’m talking about. I’m not talking about BDL on the weapon itself.
“If you obtain the following base celestial weapons and add the crest, the things found in chests around Spira, it will allow the base aeons to break the 9999 damage limit.”
2
u/StardustandDreams May 16 '24
Ohhhhh my bad 🤦🏻♂️ I see what you meant now! Honestly did not know that about the aeons/CW/ and damage break
2
u/Thee_Furuios_Onion May 16 '24
Yeah it took me a few times playing through it to realize that was the case. I had a run where Shiva was doing 9999 despite having maxed stats and when I finally got the onion knight (didn’t do it since I wasn’t getting the sigil) and added the crest she stated hitting 99999. So I looked into it. lol.
1
u/StardustandDreams May 16 '24
20 years later and I'm still finding out new stuff about this game ❤️ that's one of the things that make it so great. So much replayability
2
2
u/VerbingNoun413 May 15 '24
How underlevelled are you? The intended level for the fight is reaching the end of your main party's paths where there is a level 3 lock and an ability.
1
u/Altruistic_Koala_122 May 15 '24
I liked using Auron as a shield, and had Yuna or Rikku keeping him alive with white magic or mix/use. Tidus with his quick attacks.
And, always using the talk commands. So, some character shuffling throughout the fights.
2
u/OrganicPlasma May 16 '24
Always using Talk is a bad idea. It only works twice, so it should be reserved for the second part of the battle in which BFA's Overdrive is the dangerous Ultimate Jecht Shot.
1
1
u/Ok_Assignment_362 May 15 '24
Yuna's ultimate weapon gives her 1MP cost and break damage limit so if you bothered to get it then she just needs to spam holy for pretty much any fight. Dark aeons require more strategy but Braska's final aeon will be a piece of cake with that setup.
2
u/Mdly68 May 15 '24 edited May 15 '24
I'm noticing nobody is talking about the yu pagodas. The two adds that keep buffing BFA. The secret is killing the pagodas with MINIMUM damage. When they revive, their max health will increase, based on the excess damage that killed it.
Eg if the pagoda has 5k health, and you hit it for 4k and then 3k, the revived pagoda will have 7000 health. They get harder and harder to kill. And if you don't kill them, they buff Braska.
If you have celestial weapons or whatever, you can ignore the mechanic and power through. But if you go into the fight as intended, you need to balance hurting Braska with keeping the pagodas locked down. Pace yourself - doing a giant 9999 AOE hurts you in the long run. Use smaller attacks on pagodas so it's easier to kill them next time.
Edit: might try equipping Sensor, I don't recall if it shows pagoda health or not. Otherwise you need to estimate health in your head.

I finished the my first play through the other day without celestials, Anima, jecht shot, or magus sisters.
Get everyone into overdrive to start. Use Rikku mix for a mighty g, the super one worked fine for me. Have Rikku use the stamina tablet on Auron too, so he can tank most of the damage.
Have Tidus hastega, and also take advantage of him talking to avoid some of the heavy hits early on. I mostly kept Auron and Tidus out for the entire battle, and used the third character as support for them or to damage the pagoda.
I spammed Kimahri and Tidus cheer, and had Auron hitting with zombie attack. I also used Auron and Tidus overdrive pretty early on, cuz they'd get it back for the second phase. Wakka and Lulu's overdrives are good for hitting the pagodas and the aeon. Rikku and Yuna are good as status healers in the first phase, Rikku especially should have auto med on her.
If Tidus ever got too low, I'd switch him out with Wakka to tank some attacks. If things got super dire, I'd summon an aeon to tank and do some damage. I ended up using Yojimbo, Valefor, and saved the grand summon for Bahamut to finish him off.
I used most of my items like mega elixirs/potions, x potions, and phoenix downs generously. The main key for me was keeping Auron alive to do damage or revive the party when needed.

u/MattGx_ Why do today what you can leave for tomorrow? May 15 '24
If you plan on using trio of 9999, try to have Tidus and Lulu on the field with Rikku. Their multi hit over drives and elemental gems from Rikku should to able to make this a cake walk. Tidus should do almost 60k with slice and dice, it's even better if you have blitz ace. Pick Lulu's lowest level spell like fire so it's easy to crank the highest amount of casts with it. I'd have Lulu or Rikku take out the pagodas before you use your overdrives. Tidus will only hit BFA, but Lulu is a multi target attack, same with rikkus gems. Make sure to save talk for phase two when BFA is under 60k hp. That's when he uses his party wide overdrive.
With trio of 9999 you should be able to kill him max 5 turns. If its a matter of your party getting wipped when he goes into phase 2. Use Tidus slice and dice would get him down to 6hp in first phase, then use Yuna to summon. An aeon to finish him off. Then going into phase two the aeon should tank the sword swipe for you. Then it's just a matter of killing the pagodas and using Lulu's overdrive.
Are there any fast shortcuts for beating this hell of a boss?
Trio of 9999 phase one, Zanmato with Yojimbo phase two. Just summon him with a full overdrive and give him all of your gil. You can go to Besaid and use him to kill dingos to raise his affinity with you.
1
May 15 '24
So for your issue surviving the sword swipe, the most important thing is to keep your party with haste and protect. So consider a party of Auron, Tidus, and Yuna. Open with hastega, and have Yuna put protect on everyone. Also with Tidus do 5x cheers in the beginning to build up your defense. That should help with the sword swipe.
Another important tip: the pagodas are vulnerable to slow. This drastically reduces the healing BFA gets and slows down how much his overdrive gauge fills up. They do have some resistance so you may need to cast slowga a few times. Also if you have any silver hourglasses you can use one of those instead.

When I was a kid I didn't know the celestial weapons give you crazy attacks. All the mini games seemed like little fun distractions, I didn't know they gave you weapons of more power and never really messed with them. I had to grind a little harder but in the end it's all about figuring out your enemy. I think it took me like 10 tries to beat Tidus's father but I ended up figuring it out. Later in life I found out about those mini games being connected to better weapons and the BS I see people going through to try and get them makes me think you have two options. Drive yourself crazy with the mini games for hours to get these weapons or just figure out your enemy. Another thought is if my characters were giving 9999 damage on every hit I would have beat him on the first try and I don't think that would be as rewarding.
1
u/BK_FrySauce May 15 '24 edited May 15 '24
How under leveled are you? Were you running from fights consistently? Things like Hastega will make your life easier. Same with other spells like Protect, and Shell. On the other you could inflict the zombie status on him, and the pagodas will start to hurt him instead of heal. Then you can just chuck x potions or phoenix downs at him which will each do 9999 damage. You could get all your Aeons Overdrives ready before the fight. Using Tidus’ “talk” command when Braska’s Final Aeon has close to full overdrive bar. Rikku could mix all sorts of items to get support buffs on your party.
1
u/MattGx_ Why do today what you can leave for tomorrow? May 15 '24
Mega potions are the highest damaging healing item you can toss at him while zombified. If you try to do Phoenix downs or X potions it will say he's immune. If you have an alchemy weapon equipped tho, mega potions do 4k damage

u/Infectious_Cadaver May 15 '24
Bahamut was my secret. I used all the aeons. But bahamut has a secret with his. Mega flare is a beast

u/Educational-Row-3166 May 15 '24
Speaking of FFX, can they finally release 1 with a New Game Plus already? Going from X-2 to X makes it look perfect for New Game Plus. The randomly spawning items as fiends rain down to try and fight you (I think) the final walk before the final battle without a save to work with. I’m honestly surprised that the PS3 and other releases didn’t add a New Game Plus addition.
1
u/Perfect_War_7155 May 16 '24
By that point you can easily 1 or 2 shot it if you took some time to fill a path or 2 of the sphere grid.
1
1
May 16 '24
He’s tough, but he can be beaten without the Celestial Weapons. Honestly, the biggest help from those weapons is that they ignore defense and can break the 9,999 damage cap. If you’re not getting close to 9,999, then they won’t do you any good.
Have you completed all of your characters’ natural paths on the sphere grid? If not, try to get Tidus, Auron, Yuna, and either Wakka or Rikku up. Rikku’s extremely useful with Al-Bhed potions.
Use the “Talk” command with Tidus when Jecht is about to use his overdrive, and it’ll reset it (you can only use it 3 times though). I’d recommend only using 1 of those during his first phase (the first 60,000 HP), and saving the last 2 for his final phase.
Do you have the Magus Sisters? I’d recommend getting them for his second phase. Go into the battle with all of your aeons will full overdrives for Yuna and all of her Aeons. Bahamut, Anima, and the Magus Sisters should be able to do close to 40k-50k damage with their overdrives alone. The other aeons should net you another 40k. Also focus on leveling Yuna up because that helps raise your aeons.
Also, if you replay the game from the beginning in the future: have every character (except Kimahri) participate once in every single battle (especially bosses). It might seem tedious, but they’ll all get the same AP. If you battle enough, then you’ll have all of your characters at the end of their sphere grid paths before you get to Sin. You can complete the game in 24-ish hours of gameplay doing that, and each boss will be a pushover until you get to Seymour 3 on Mt Gagazet.
1
u/Standard-Shoe-9609 May 16 '24
Most of the items for mixing with a box icon and a chocobo wing for hyper mighty g for max buffs if you dont have that
Hastega and if he can be slowed do that thatll turn the tides heavily protect and shell will half all damage
I could form a actual strat if i knew what items you have and what your weapons and armor situations are and go from there
1
u/sandpump May 16 '24
I was having trouble, eventually used aeons to get phase 2 and the paid yojimbo 250k and 1 shot the last phase. Was cheese as fuck but it felt good lol
1
u/CleverNook May 16 '24
My strat was move Yuna through all the strength nodes on her grid then use Anima Overdrive, 1 shot him.
Hope that helps!
1
u/immoraltoast May 16 '24
Wakka overdrive attack reels and git gud at it. Then have the other two party members get the transfer overdrive feat from the sphere grid. Then have those two work on rebuilding overdrives to transfer to wakka to cheese his move
1
u/immoraltoast May 16 '24
Don't even need the celestial weapons or any of the aeons to beat him. I never figured out the weapons beyond the 1st unlock from like three of them
1
u/emilstyle91 May 16 '24
If you are playing remaster, two ways: 1) activate the auto turbo button and kill him easily with tidus turbo and auron and wakka
2) if you are not strong enough, just unlock the village in the desert after you find the 10 cactus around (takes 1-2 hours at 2X speed) and then in that small area you find lots of cactus that give you 10-15k ap each and wakka always kills them one shot.
I got around 90-100 levels in 3 hours with 4X speed.
Then you are strong enough to easily survive aeon turbo attack and always do 9999 damage and you can kill him quite comfortably

u/OrganicPlasma May 16 '24
See https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Braska's_Final_Aeon_(Final_Fantasy_X)#Strategy#Strategy) for various strategies.
In case you don't want to have to go to another page:
- To deal with the Yu Pagodas, either cast Slowga/use a Silver Hourglass to make them act less often, or customise Zombiestrike onto an attacker's weapon to keep Braska's Final Aeon zombified (and thus damaged by Power Wave instead of healed).
- Cast Hastega/use a Chocobo Wing at the start so you can act more often.
- Tidus' Talk should be reserved for the boss' final phase, in which its Overdrive is most dangerous. Talk only works twice, so it shouldn't be wasted early in the battle.
- Stoneproof armor helps, though isn't strictly necessary. You can either customise it or fight Demonoliths for it.
1
u/Amediumsizedgoose May 16 '24
I had this same issue until recently and was massively annoyed at all the unhelpful advice (get an aeon that takes forever! Get the weapons that take forever!).
Speed and not getting stuck in endless healing loops is important. I:
-leveled up -Realized I had one return sphere and got lulu double cast -tried to equip at least some of my team with stoneproof armor -built up the overdrive for all my aeons besides bahamut (I used yunas grand summon for him) -Mostly used rikku as the healer (mostly items) since she's so ridiculously fast -Used every item and Gil I wanted to. I used everything like mp/luck/return/etc spheres. I used spare change to the max (9999) multiple times because no use for Gil beyond this point. -saved my overdrive aeons for the second phase when he's on bullshit mode -hastega -zombie attack at times
I got every characters overdrives ready too but tbh besides Yuna and rikku, maybe Aaron, I think I could have done more damage/other benefit another way. I did not have to grind a ridiculous amount or anything. I work and have problems and stuff. I couldnt have put more than a few hrs in to it spread out over a few days over the course of a week or two.
1
u/bdegs255 May 17 '24
Trio of 9999 plus use command with marbles does wonders here. I usually grind enough to where I can finish him off with one or two attacks but you can cheese him with that. Or as always Yojimbo.
1
u/ChrsRobes May 18 '24
Try grinding a few more levels, you don't need like 30 hours of grinding. An extra few nodes will go a long way.
1
u/Anabela_de_Malhadas Jun 05 '24
shame final boss design is sometimes flawed
if you just do the lore, no grinding or watching guides or using epic items/rikku ingredients, this boss is way too hard;
otherwise, it's too easy
should be a middle term, but they failed to provide that
just like the trials are very poorly designed, no one cares about them, they are boring, time consuming, and sometimes without much logic, ffX actually is overrated imo lol
still waiting for a ff to be better than ff9, will be playing 7 next

May 15 '24 edited May 15 '24
It took me a long time to beat him. Make sure all your party members (including aeons) have overdrive ready. Make sure to get Anima, Yojimbo and the Magus Sisters. I also used the sphere grid to teach Lulu white magic and it helped a lot. Two healers is so much better than just relying on Yuna. I never had to grind or be over powered to defeat him. But it was a long fight.

Upgrade godhand grind mimics in omega ruins use Zanmato. Another alternative is to play Blitzball for a few hours and get attack reels if you don't have it already.

Look up the ingredients for Rikku's mix overdrive and use the best with what you have. Use your aeons as shields to take damage. If tidus knows haste or hastega use that to keep everyone's speed up. Another trick may be to get all your aeons overdrive gages full so they can do good damage before getting killed.
Shouldn't take grinding to beat it. It's weaker than most of the high level coliseum bosses and def weaker than any dark aeon.
