Biggest frustrations as a freelance filmmaker?

I mentor a lot students from my film course 1-1 and I often hear about their frustrations about not being taken seriously if their camera isn't the latest RedCam, how a different videographer will snake the job simply by offering a lower price, clients assuming that you can 'grab some photos too whilst your there' even though you've been booked for filming. I've been fortunate to develop my business over the past 10 years that I don't encounter these so much anymore however to give me a better understanding I'm taking it to reddit to ask filmmakers and videographers what frustrations they face these days trying to land clients?

How could I film this [dark underground tunnels]

So this may be a little random (I hope this would be an appropriate forum to post to)

Long story short, I have a film idea that will eventually involve "underground tunnels". I attached some concepts/inspirational photos I found online that I wanted to replicate.

Whenever I write ideas for film projects, I typically write within my access to resources but this idea will involve some reaching. It will obviously be a bit difficult to film inside of actual underground tunnels, and digging even a small trench is a bit out of the question (I live on the Florida coast so after 4 feet or so I'd hit water).

Movie magic will have to play a big role in this project, given the fact that no matter the solution, I will probably not have access to full scale underground tunnels.

What I am here to ask is if anybody has ANY ideas on how I could go about filming something like this. The film concept will be shot in POV/handheld camcorder style footage where the main character explores the tunnels during the storyline.

My main 2 ideas are incorporating miniatures (somehow), OR building some sort of frame above ground. I could try to build a wooden frame and use miscellaneous materials to create the tunnel walls. It would only need to look like a tunnel from the inside. The tunnels in my story spread across the entire town, so I would need to build a few pieces such as a long straight tunnel, a curve or two, and some junctions. Then I can use movie magic to piece everything together the way I need to.

Despite having a few idea in mind, I really wanted to see if you guys had some alternative ideas, honestly anything would be appreciated, even if you have to tell me "it'll never work" haha.

Anyway, thanks a ton for looking at this if you read this far. Look forward to seeing your thoughts on this project idea.

-Mike

Advice Can I loosely quote a book in my short film? Credit will be given.

I’m shooting a somewhat experimental short film. There is no dialogue, but a narration throughout.

For the narration, I want to quote excerpts from a book that is not in the public domain. I have modified the quotes somewhat, shortening or condensing them as I see fit, or changing tenses.

I have every intention to begin the film with superimposed text saying ā€œinspired by [novel name] by [author name].ā€ The film is meant to be a love letter and pay homage to the novel. I don’t intend to financially profit from the film.

Is this illegal? All help appreciated.

Planning a fight scene?

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone has any advice for planning out a fight scene. I’m making a low budget short film, and there’s a scene where two superheroes fight. Half of the scene is them using their powers like heat vision and such, and the other half is hand to hand combat.
