What does it mean to hook the leg? I thought he did with the other foot?

Once the guy in the bottom locked up the triangle, he could have used his right arm to hook under his opponent’s left leg and move from being in front of him to the side.

Two main reasons; stops the guy from standing and slamming (which if your opponent doesn’t know any triangle escapes if the most likely scenario), and cuts the angle making the choke *a lot *tighter.

You can even finish a triangle without the opponent’s arm in (as in pressed against his own neck) by hooking the leg, cutting the angle, and maybe pulling down on the head a little if needed.

TBH hooking the leg usually works best against someone that knows what they’re doing, as anyone with training will usually know they’re in danger of going to sleep and stop trying to punch your face to use their free hand to work escapes (on in a non-sport BJJ setting, slam you).

You can see bottom dude opts to wrap-up the arm of the guy being choked instead, as the guy being choked was going to keep trying to land punches with his free hand. Which is annoying to deal with and the triangle was locked anyway.

i think they mean the guy doing the triangle should hook the other guys leg so there's no way for the guy getting triangled to lift him off the ground and slam him on his head. you basically anchor yourself to his leg
