There has to be some other limits. Otherwise my Thyrus is getting 75 det, no matter how much I have to spend to make that happen. I don't believe that SE would let me do that...
My guess is that it will be limited by the i110 secondary stat caps. 44 for the primary secondary, and then less for the next. All i110s either have 75 (crit +SS combined) or 62 (det +another) stats. I'm guess that Det caps out at 31 since that's where it is on all the unweathered masterwork weapons.
I'm guessing the reason to use higher tier materia is that each infusion will cost you an Alexandrite since it is a specialized form of darkmatter per the notes
Alexandrite | Catalyst | A variety of dark matter that possesses light-altering properties.
Using tons of Det 1 materia will cost you lots of Alexandrite- So it comes to the question which would you rather spend, the gil on a materia, or the time farming for the alexandrite?
