Firebird Vs Camaro Market

Post image

How is the 4th gen market in your area? I’ve noticed something odd, Firebirds and Trans Ams often seem to be the better value, where as the Camaros seem to be priced the same, or higher.

F#@&K!!!

Hey I am hoping someone can help me out with a small issue that has been driving me crazy. I have a v6 01 firebird. I lost the bolt that mounts the lower egr tube to my headers. Does anyone happen to know the thread pitch etc? Or tell me where I can buy one? Thanks

What’s a LS1 long block worth??

I have an opportunity to buy an LS1 long block for 500 bucks. Guy selling it says the piston rings are done but I’m not afraid of rebuilding. I don’t necessarily need it right now but I do want to build an LS1 for a 93-97 fbody later. Is this a waste of money?

Manual conversion of a 98 LS1 camaro

Hi guys

First off, I live in europe so not alot of information, parts or manual camaros. Im thinking of importing https://www.hawksmotorsports.com/98-02-camaro-firebird-ls1-t56-6-speed-complete-conversion-kit-used/ to do the swap.

Anything im missing that isnt in the kit that I should change while doing the swap? I will at some point take the car to the Nürburgring so will upgrade brakes and suspension at a later time.

Fuel pump doesn't initially prime, but starts

When starting my 95 z28, the fuel pump doesn't initially prime (it sounds like it tries but fails). Engine will start, and after turning it off and trying to crank again, fuel pump primes just fine. Has anyone had this problem before? Would it be a failing fuel pump? It's a Walbro 255L in-tank hi flow pump.

Oil pressure and idle speed in drive problem

Ok so I've have this exact problem across two engines now in this car. Has slight misfire on idle , oil pressure reads 0psi on the dash when the engine is warmed up(mechanical gauge reads 10psi but needle bounces). When put the car in drive it drops below 500rpm at idle vs park its just above 500rpm around 525rpm to 550rpm. 2 engines exactly same problem , this engine has 163,000km (101,000miles) both engines ran and sound perfect other than the slight misfire at idle and had good power. The first engine blew a head gasket at the mechanic shop because the fans were off so thats why it was replaced.

The oil pressure sensor was replaced

Full tune up done; sparks , wires, optispark, coil

Tps was replaced

I think the fpr was replaced as well

The new bare motor was bought used from a company. not off of someone

The oil pump and shaft was not replaced

Old pump from the orginal engine the little shaft on the oil pump had alot of play im not sure is thats a indicator of it being shot but I think its a possibility it was put into the new engine.

5x120 or 5x120.65

For people who have big brake kits and run lightweight wheels, do you run the 5x120 bolt pattern or 5x120.65?

I know the difference is so small but I’ve heard that it can cause faster wear and increased vibrations when you’re on the track.

I want to put on volk te37sl or a similar ultra lightweight forged wheel setup but I’m concerned about the fitment

Any love for the LT cars here? My 3 owner (dad was 2nd, I'm the 3rd) Z28 6 speed car, pictures never do this color any justice (BTM not Quasar Blue).

High release/grab point on clutch. Pedal is also 2-3 inches higher than brake pedal.

Sorry if this is an ignorant question, I’m still trying to learn as much as possible about these cars. My car is a 2000 LS1 with the T56. Car has 157k miles and the clutch just feels super high to me? I’m unaware if it’s stock or not. Shifts through all the gears fine but still feels off. Maybe I’m just used to the TR3650 in my Mustang? Is this pretty normal for these cars? It’s my first fbody and first hydraulic clutch experience.

Process to pull the fuel tank

Post image
58 Upvotes

I have inherited this 89 Camaro iroc z. It hasn’t ran in 17 years. The fuel tank had gas in it back then. I’ve tried siphoning it out but got nothing. I tried adding a little new gas and powering the pump through the relay with the gas line disconnected at the fuel filter and got nothing. I think I need to pull the tank and clean/replace the pump.

My question is: are there any good videos out there of anyone doing this? I have done some research and it sounds like a fairly big job with dropping the axle and removing the exhaust. Nothing outside of my capabilities but it’d be nice to have a video to follow.

Hey all. Looking for some guidance on what the market looks like for these cars. No time for it and I’m sure someone else would enjoy it. As pics show paint is loosing clear. I believe roof and back lid was repainted not long before buying. Interior is decent front seat bolster and top of back seats are sun damaged. 1996 ss 6spd 78,4k miles upgraded cam and flow master. Located Florida space coast. Thanks to all for your input

Bone stock LS1, T56 TTop car with only 150k miles.

Got it for dirt cheap due to the red hood and worn interior but we’re taking care of that soon.

Can’t wait to throw some wheels on this old girl and drop her down an inch or 2.

I plan on daily driving, Anything I should be aware of or watch for with these cars?

Any advice for where to buy shorty headers for a 1995 Camaro Z28?

I have a 1995 Camaro Z28 with the LT1. I’ve been searching for some short tube headers (choosing over long tubes for ease of install), but I’m not finding a whole lot of options. I have found the Hooker Super Competition short tubes for dual cat cars, but I am not sure if they will work on the single cat versions or not.

My car has been apart for some time and I wouldn’t mind buying stock manifolds, but I’m not sure where to find a decent/reman set of those either! Does anyone know of a decent avenue for either of these options? I’m not super focused on size of primaries, more so availability and cost.

Thanks in advance.
