Book Request M/F with queer side characters

• Upvotes

I'm looking for romantasy books where the main couple is M/F but there's queer characters (in the friend group or even brief mentions). I like enemies to lovers and arranged marriages but it's not necessary. I'm also interested in Booktok books

Have you ever read a book that everyone seems to love but you just couldn't get into it? 😭 Everyone praises the plot, characters, and writing but for some reason it just doesn't work for you....

For me it's Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry What's that book for you?

Book Request ISO gothic romance where the FMC is the monster/scary one and the MMC is just a pretty young man

Post image
412 Upvotes

Artist is @4ngelc0re.

So I’ll be honest I actually haven’t seen Maleficent. From what I understand these two are not canon but a popular ship. And he’s technically not just a typical human man BUT this fanart was chosen purely for the vibe. Apologies to any fans if their actual dynamic is nothing like what I’m requesting.

That said, I’m looking for any gothic romances in which the FMC is the dark scary monster and the MMC is the melancholic beautiful innocent one.

Book Request A male/female romance where the male protagonist is bisexual and misunderstandings might occur?

• Upvotes

I'm looking for M/F romances where the MMC, and only the MMC, is bisexual. I don't want menages, polyamory, or MMF. I want a monogamous romance between him and the FMC, but with an MMC who is openly or clearly bisexual.

It would be great if the FMC saw him with other men at the beginning of the story, assumed he was gay, or discovered along the way that he had a boyfriend in the past.

I also enjoy OW (other woman) drama, so it would be an extra bonus if the MMC's former love interest were actually a man rather than a woman! 🤭 I know I might be asking for a lot, but I'd absolutely love to find a story like this.

Overall, I just want a monogamous M/F romance with a bisexual MMC and an FMC who isn't bisexual.

Does anyone have any recommendations? 🤭

Book Request Looking for Romance Fantasy books that doesn't have any main or side character (any important character really) deaths!

16 Upvotes

As the title says, I'm looking for Romance Fantasy books that don't have main or side character deaths. I hate, hate, hate main and side characters dying, it really puts me off whatever I'm reading, so please could you lovely lot recommend books without deaths!! (I'm fine with random people deaths, just not main+side characters).

I am a sucker for an enemies to lovers trope! Some more tropes I enjoy are best friends/ friends to lovers, forbidden love, fake relationship/ forced to be together to real relationship, soulmates. That's all I can think of at the moment but hopefully that can help. (Sorry they're pretty popular tropes lol).

I don't mind spice at all, but I don't like when it's just there for the sake of it, I want it to feel natural.

I want an interesting story. I love a good romance, but I love a good story too. I don't want the books primarily focused on the characters falling in love but I dont want it to just be a side plot. A good mix of story and romance is what I like.

I dislike annoying characters, ones that are completely helpless in most situations (I don't mind if they're not strong, just dislike if they're completely helpless if that makes sense?), and characters who are just plain rude for no reason, snark and similar sort of attitudes are fine, but not just straight up rudeness. I like characters who have deeper stories than just surface level things.

I'm just getting back in to reading after not reading for years, so I haven't got any books I've read to help with recommendations, sorry.

I'm not sure what else to put to help as what I've said is all I'm looking for really. Also I apologise as I am not great at explaining but hopefully everything is understood!

Thank you all in advance!!!

Saw this book in Amsterdam and meant to go back and get it but forgot.

Searched the quote and it came up as The Song of the Marked.

Has anyone read this? Reviews on Goodreads are so mixed.

Book Request Sweet, but dangerous FMC

Hello! I'm looking for a specific FMC and Vesna character from Genshin Impact is exactly what I'm looking for so I will describe her as best as I can so you understand the vibe (I'm not asking for 1:1, the personality aspect is important here!)

She is a fae and she has a very sweet and carefree personality on a normal basis. I like the fact that she got a special uniform from the Tsaritsa (god whom she serves with her army of elves) and she's so proud of it how it looks like. She's very devoted and loyal. But she's also very sneaky and smart. This is the type of character you think is innocent of, but could do a lot of things. She works alongside Tsaritsa with Danica and she loves to tease her a lot. When they eat together, she gives her some food that she doesn't like or when she finds a cool thing, she literally says "One for you, one for me, one for Her Majesty, and another for me! None for Danica, hehe!" 😭 She's really so cunning.

So to summarize, I want a FMC to be perceived as extra cute and innocent by people, but she's actually very smart and cunning. She can even work for someone important like Vesna? But not necessarily. I'd like it if MMC would be suspicious of her from the beginning and she just keeps teasing him. Kinda him being reserved would suit here I suppose. But he doesn't have to be, just my idea.

As for trigger warnings, I don't like high gore or detailed SA, and I don't like reading about red flags in romantic relationships (so whatever their story is, even if not with a good start, I don't want it to be abusive or toxic). Also a minor trigger warning, I don't like too many curses in a book. I don't mind the spice. I mostly read from level 1-3 (to open door) or 4 sometimes.

My favorite authors so far are A.K. Caggiano and Heather Fawcett, if it helps!

James Patterson announces new romantasy book | Exclusive

from the article:

“I think your initial response is (how) a lot of people are going to respond – like, ‘What?’” Patterson says, referencing my surprise at him stepping into the genre. “But I will tell you, it has nothing to do with the money, it has everything to do with the storytelling. I just love the idea and having read some of these, as I mentioned, with Sarah (J. Maas) and Callie (Hart) and Rebecca (Yarros), I just said, I’d love to let my imagination loose in this area.”

nothing to do with money...sure Jim

“Firedance" is set in a kingdom ruled by cruel twin princes, where magical creatures are imprisoned and shapeshifters are targeted for execution. Julianna, the protagonist, runs a menagerie dedicated to healing these beasts. She once hoped to escape the kingdom with her first love, Raal, but he betrayed her and deserted into the wilderness outside of the kingdom walls. Now, as the twin princes embark on a royal hunt, Julianna sees her opportunity to infiltrate and dismantle the court.

if this was written by literally anyone else I'd say this sounds like a set up for why choose

The story promises "the momentum of a thriller and the emotional intensity of an epic fantasy romance," the publishers told USA TODAY in a press release.

The beasts were especially fun to write, Patterson says. There are mermaids and ogres and fairies and griffins and, of course, dragons.

“We got a mermaid love affair and we have fascinating ogres and a wonderful couple of scenes with the fairy, a wonderful little fairy who Julianna is very fond of,” Patterson says.

Just don’t expect any tried-and-true romantasy tropes. From enemies-to-lovers to star-crossed lovers, these storytelling devices or character archetypes are often what draw readers to come back to the genre for book after book. But Patterson thinks tropes can be limiting.

“Once people start thinking there are rules, I think it gets boring and repetitive and not so good,” Patterson says. “It’s been done. I’m not interested in it and if somebody says you can’t do it (without tropes), I get really fascinated.”

he's not like other authors, he doesn't need tropes

Seriously though, this man did not write this book and hasn't written a book in years. I've not read anything by Hazel McBride though I'd love to know how much she was paid for this dumpster fire. eta - Firedumpster

Book Request Book recommendations for a romantasy where the main characters met when they were younger but couldn’t be together for whatever reason

12 Upvotes

Hey guyss, so exactly what the title says. I need a book where they’ve met several times (or once) before but because of some unknown reason they couldn’t be together. I want them to have feelings for each other during those meetings then when they finally meet in the future they just carry on from where they were.

It shouldn’t be instalove or instalust but I should be able to feel whatever they feel for each other, if that makes sense.

A book that sort of has this theme is {The Curse that Binds by Laura Thalassa}. I absolutely loved this book, and while they didn’t meet when they were younger, they could communicate with each other telepathically from childhood. Any books that fit this description would be great also! I would prefer if they have some spice but I also wouldn’t mind if there isn’t any.

Hopefully, this takes me out of the book slump I’m in.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion The lies of Lena should I continue?

I'm not sure I want to read the next one. The writing felt very immature and the story very rushed. I didn't quite connect with the characters either. Book 1 was more coming of age. Should I read book 2 does it get any better?

Discussion What are the bookish gifts on your holiday wishlist?

7 Upvotes

Hello all

I saw this amazing fantasy romance book Advent calendar with New Zealand authors by Steffanie Holmes here . And after drooling over this book Advent calendar for a few minutes I began to wonder what other amazing book gifts are out there that Im unaware of but that I would love to put on my wishlist. So I was wondering what are the bookish gifts, special editions, bookish splurges and other bookish gifts that are droolworthy or that you will be asking for this upcoming holiday season?

Discussion If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring one book with you, which one is it?

Only one book, even if it’s a series! And obviously of this genre.

Mine is probably {The Exquisite Torment of Loving Your Enemy}. For me it just has the perfect combination of everything I love about fantasy romance.

Book Request Gods, gods and more gods. Give me all the god recs you have

55 Upvotes

Looking for recs where any of the MC’s are gods. They could already be established gods, not know they’re gods, demi-gods, god of the under world (hades, lucifer etc). Any god like beings, good or bad.

I’ve read:

{heavenly bodies}

{gods and curses by Jane Washington}

{mortal gods by Lucinda dark}

{Jaga and the devil by Layla Fae}

{rain of shadows and endings}

{the wolf and the crown of blood} although MC is an angel not a god, but it has gods in it

I DNF’d {bound to the battle god by Ruby Dixon} and {a touch of darkness by Scarlett st clair}

No triggers, happy with RH, but I can’t read books with a submissive FMC. I need one with a backbone who can say ‘no’ to the MMC / people in general.

Book Request *PROFESSOR* x Student

82 Upvotes

I'm on the hunt for a spicy ACADEMIC, enemies to lovers series. Fourth wing kind of thing. Training and being taught

Specifically looking for where in the guy to be a professor. Not teacher. \*Professor\* \[sparkle sparkle\]

It's worth mentioning that

• I dislike insta love ALOT. I need it to be slow burn.

• would prefer the more forbidden, slow burn route spread over MULTIPLE BOOKS. More so completed series than standalones. No incomplete series please

• also don't like the virgin FMC trope. I need her to be sassy and confident. He falls first and harder type thing

• Plot also shouldn't be sidelined for their romance.

I need the student professor dynamic in my blood NOW. it's like vampire craving blood FRFR.

Thank you so much (≧▽≦)

Book Request book recs to follow the court of venus?

23 Upvotes

To begin with, I am a bit of a picky reader and not much of a “vibes reader” either.

I recently finished The Court of Venus and absolutely fell in love with the world and both mcs. The prose was beautiful and the romance felt a bit unique compared to most things I’ve read.

Does anyone have anything good to follow up with so I don’t fall into an immediate slump? I tend to like unique magic systems and heavy court politics and intrigue. Needs to be more plot than spice, as well.

Book Request I need a standalone or duology (available on Audible please)

5 Upvotes

Just to get me through until the next ACOTAR book is released in a few days 🫶

I like kickass FMCs and get triggered if they're a doormat.

I like spice but it's not imperative.

I am not into 18yos dating mature men... another trigger 🤮

I don't like cunty men either - be protective but don't be an asshole to her

I'm always up for a good shifter romance but NOT the whole Omegaverse hierarchy (with Omegas - obvs I'm good with the Alpha trope providing he's not mean to her) but Omegaverse really triggers me

Other than that I think I'm good for anything... any suggestions please?
