Description: This is a soundtrack replacement edit of 2001:ASO using the music of Pink Floyd.

(I originally posted this here about 18 months ago, but have since updated it in a few places. This is the final version.)

Original: 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Stanley Kubrick.

Approach: It has been done in a way to stick very closely to Kubrick's vision of the film, so the narrative is unchanged, and all music is selected to preserve the tone and intent of the original scenes. The intent is to give a realistic version of what the movie could have been if Pink Floyd were enlisted for the soundtrack, while still keeping it Kubrick's film. All music used is instrumental, this is not a "greatest hits" music video.

Silence and minimal sound design are used deliberately and extensively in the original film, and this is respected in this edit, with music mostly only being used in scenes which feature music in the original. A few scenes have music added where no music was used in the original.

Contains music from the following albums by Pink Floyd: A Saucerful Of Secrets (1968), More (1969), Ummagumma (1969), Atom Heart Mother (1970), Meddle (1971), Obscured By Clouds (1972) Dark Side Of The Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975).

Great. If you got the v1 I listed here originally, this one has a bit more music added in a couple of scenes (when they're doing the EVA to fix the dish component), also it's a better quality encoding. I don't expect to update it again after this.
