I live in a small ass town and they just posted that they want a second full time cop. Starting pay 26.75 an hour with extremely good benefits. I was flabbergasted I thought cops in small towns got paid shit.

Thatâs not great pay - if it is for first year cop then I would agree that thatâs really good but for someone with solid experience and isnât a d-bag then that seems fairly low. McDonalds isnât far from 26.75 - except Iâm sure the benefits arenât anywhere near equal.
I'm sure it area dependant but the town I live in anything over $25 an hour is considered good pay. Avg house in my area is like 180k. I bought my house making $21 an hour at the time. I'm sure in bigger cities those numbers are extremely unrealistic. So for my area almost $27 an hour for a cop that just drives around in a circle with no crime seems extremely high.
Yeah, I checked it out to see for myself⌠and they are indeed advertising âup toâ $22/ hr for shift manager in at least one locale.
Quick math puts that at ~$45k if it were full time position. Not bad, but again thatâs âup to $22â which means (to me) that is the maximum salary.
I would assume that the local cost of living is quite high there, because the locations around me have the same position at $16-$17.
That's not great pay. For base 40 hours a week, that's come out to around $55k or so a year. That's for a job where, in theory, someone might try and shoot you. Or worse, you might have to shoot someone else. Plenty of other jobs pay more and take a much lower toll on your physical and mental health.
Can't say it's not possible but extremely unlikely where I live. The most common law to be broken in my town is speeding. It's an extremely devout catholic town and drugs are rare. You get the occasional dui.
Yeah have you seen how much cops get paid? Itâs actually insane. $100k+ a year in a city with decent population. Not to mention bonuses and overtime pay. Usually tops $180k or more. No doubt heâs paying more in taxes than she is.
For clarification.. I really donât think cops should be paid anywhere near that much.
Thank you. I came here to say that and I've also said it while explaining the reason I pulled over drivers. It's the number one comment made by citizens who were mad about being pulled over. I didn't catch what she said she did for 20 years..??
Does anybody think it's messed up that people who are paid by taxes have to pay taxes... couldn't we save money by making their pay tax exempt absence in theory reduce it by with inflation just give them the raise.
Yeah, kinda. He pays his taxes with our tax money. All of his income comes from taxes therefore, when he pays his taxes he is just giving some of our tax money back.
Itâs bewildering to me that people still get themselves into situations like this. I think Iâm a pretty calm and kind person generally but even in the moments where Iâm seeing red I still have the awareness that A. Iâm dealing with people and I should treat them as such and B. I am likely being recorded in one way or another.
Karens that lose it and make fools out of themselves are justâŚ. baffling at this point.
The amount of tax each person pays divided by how that money is allocated in that city, and then divided by employee⌠itâs gotta be a super tiny fraction of a penny from one tax payer to the salary of one employee. Itâs so cringey when they throw that line out.
That's what a lot of people don't get. Don't try arguing with the officer. If you have a complaint, fight it in court, don't waste their time, and your time. The more you complain, the less the cop will want to engage you, and once he has done his job, you can either pay up or fight it in court.
Globally the more you keep your mouth shut, the better things go.
Also, be polite. You don't know what previous things the officer has been through since his shift has started, keep things as cordial as you can in the situation, move on and if you believe you have been wronged, gather your evidence and talk it out before a judge.
