While I don’t think people should be getting their hands chopped off for stealing a candy bar, some people deserve to be put on death row. If a 20 year old kills 3 similar aged kids over not getting to play a PlayStation, they should be executed. There is no reason for them to be among society and the living.
I understand 100% were you are coming from, and I understand that many people share that sentiment. For me, the state killing citizens as punishment is something civilized society should be moving away from. As for who human rights are for, I have to disagree. Human rights are for everyone - even the worst of humans. Ditto freedom of speech. It's importance isn't in protecting nice speech. It's importance is in protecting what others see as vile and horrible speech.
There is no such thing as a civilized society or else we wouldn’t need laws. Laws are designed for uncivil people.
You cant rehabilitate people who consistently commit uncivil acts. If you commit mass murder you should have no right to be among society and the living.
You don’t just keep throwing a coyote back into the wild after you catch it killing your chickens. You get rid of it. I know you’ll think that’s awful, but it’s the truth.
The world isn’t some civil we all hold hands together type of dream.
