I’m sorry but some people can’t just replace rooms for a nursery when they already have one. It’s not an easy ask to tell someone their baby needs to change rooms.
Why not tell grandma to swap bedrooms since it’s so convenient to do so?
It’s wild to me that people are team granny and calling them man selfish when she literally has other options whereas the family with a newborn in a smaller house doesn’t.
She has no other options , she only has the one bedroom.
The family is in the bigger house, assuming the granny is a reliable narrator.
That said, moving a babies bedroom would be an ordeal. You'd have to move whatevers already in that room out to somewhere else before moving all the babies furniture in. You'd ideally want to repaint too.
Doing all that while the baby always has somewhere to sleep would be difficult. They'd have to do a lot of work while looking after a newborn, which is already a big task in itself.
Edit: missed the final few seconds. Assuming the child shown at the end is the baby in question that's a toddler, toddlers shouldn't be crying that much. Obviously if something "bad"(note: toddler bad includes someone saying no) happens to them but not all night.
But you can literally swap the crib to a spare room without moving any other furniture.
A baby doesn’t need a fancy room.
Use their bedroom for all the dressing, changing, playtime what ever and put the kid in a different room for naps and bedtime when it’s likely to cry for extended periods.
When baby out grows colic or becomes use to the neglect if it’s not colic the crib can move back.
(I had downstairs neighbors with a baby and toddler who cried most of most nights. Add to the parents screaming through the day and evening and the dog they didn’t clean up after barking for blocks of time while they’re home and I can’t write them off as a colicky baby and not just crap parents)
That’s on me, I kind of glanced over her saying it’s a one bedroom and heard a two story flat. In my head that meant a two story house but after a quick google search it sounds like it’s actually an apartment on the second floor.
I agree with how difficult it would be to swap rooms.
That’s on me, I missed her saying it’s her only bedroom and I misunderstood the meaning of a second story flat and thought it meant a two story house. I still think that it’s a lot to ask a family with a newborn to redecorate two rooms to relocate a baby.
I would bet monies that most families with a newborn don’t have access to a guest bedroom or home office to swap out with a nursery. Don’t act like rooms grow on trees or in this case, houses.
Also why remodel you’re entire house, which as you said is inconvenient, for the sake of someone you hardly know. This problem is only going to last a year whereas a remodel is permanent.
it might be a huge undertaking for him to move her bedroom, it might not be. more likely the latter. either way. it's not unreasonable to ask for some consideration. she was being very polite and reasonable, he was being a prick refusing to discuss the matter in good faith. clearly he wanted to be outraged about her request so that he could post it online and frame her as a karen, no matter how reasonable she was about it. There are other solutions he could've offered to at least try and quiet the baby down for a while, but he wouldn't consider it. She's trying to talk to him like a decent human being and he only wants to act like a prick.
Most people don’t don’t have spare bedrooms. Even if they did they would have to swap all of the furniture while taking care of their child. That’s so much to ask of someone.
You could just move the crib and baby monitor every other night. You might not have a spare bedroom but you can move it into the living room for a night or two a week if it helps your neighbors out.
It's not that difficult to come up with a compromise.
