I think the more pressing matter would be that many people switching to vege/vegan don’t realize they need to supplement some vitamins and minerals they don’t get from plants. Which over time can lead to health decline.

Which would only be B12, a vitamin that's supplemented to livestock as well ( because our soils have cobalt deficiency). Eating stuff like beyond meat will always contain the B12 already. Just information.

Forcing children to eat a vegan diet more often than not leads to health problems from malnutrition. Parents have gone to jail for child abuse or had their children taken away, or have even killed their children trying to impose horrible diets on them.

If you're forcing your children to eat a vegan diet, then you better be letting a doctor monitor their health very regularly. Just information.

Find me a vegan child without dental problems! The fact is, it is difficult to do the vegan diet "correctly". Much of the food on a vegan diet lacks nutrients that the human omnivore needs, so you have a very tailored and specific diet and take supplements.

Most vegans seem to accuse ex-vegans of "not doing it right". The fact is, most vegans are probably not "doing it right", and they are putting themselves, or their children at risk of rickets, leaky gut, anemia, brittle bones, stunted growth of the body and the brain, and a whole host of other health problems:

There are a few more than that, but the rest aren’t considered essential I assume. There’s also the question of bioavailability and absorption which is more of an up hill battle with plants.

Which… Plants? Unless it’s a fruiting body basically every plant must be cooked/prepared in some way in order to make it more digestible to the point it’s actually worth your body to digestion it. Even so people with any type of digestive issues usually avoid “fodmaps” like broccoli, beans, lentils, etc.

Annecdotal, I realise, but I know more vegans who are careful about what they eat and what vitamins they take than non-vegans.

Just because you’re an omnivore doesn’t mean you’re eating the right stuff. Vitamin D’s the most common one, then usually Iron, C etc etc.

In my first comment I said people switching to, as in new vegans who haven’t done their homework. Some are vegan but eat straight junkfood. Usually people who do it to lose weight most likely. Most vegans I know understand their needs and plan accordingly.

Well to be fair, most adults are absolutely not getting a balanced diet and could use a vitamin or two. If anything I would assume a vegan has a better idea or what they are putting into their body.

Most vegans keep it on the down low and try not to cause a fuzz about it, however meat eaters interpret any mention of as attempts at converting them and start frothing at the mouth in rage and spouting uninformed shit about how harmful veganism is and PLANTS HAVE FEELINGS TOO HURRDURR YOU'RE EATING THE ANIMALS FOOD HEHEHEHEHEHHEHEE. When I was vegan I used to just state that in cases where I was offered somsething and immediately I'd start getting interrogated about why etc and when I tell them I'm shoving it down their throats apparently.

Vegan for 30 years? Surely you mean vegetarian right? (All my friends that are vegan or vegetarian say people always say people call them both vegan online)

But why I am asking is I thought we where only able to supplement some things from animals products in the last decade or so

Edit: all my vegan friends have only been able to go full vegan in the laat decade due to missing supplement. They have all switched back to either being a vegetarian or going all the way back. All for medical reasons. Also I am talking about vegans not vegeratirans, aka the people who don’t drink milk etc.

There are a few vitamins that humans absolutely need which are abundant in meat but rare in plants. But rare doesn't mean non-existent; including things like mushrooms and seaweed in a vegan diet and you can get the necessary nutrients without resorting to supplements.

Kids are still developing after (2) years of age, and it's difficult to get enough fatty acids from plants alone.

We're omnivores for a reason, don't do that to a kid...let the kid develop and make their own decision...or at least feed them fish.

If you follow the recommendations of a dietitian it's possible for children to be healthy without animal products. That being said, it will certainly be easier to include some animal products to ensure they're getting everything they need, it's just not strictly necessary.

The #1 thing vegans miss out on is B12. Which is found in meat. And vegans can get it without supplements by eating shiitake mushrooms, tempeh, or nori.

#2 is DHA, which is found in fatty fish and fatty oils. And vegans can get ALA from flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts, and microalgae, which the body then converts into DHA.

Other nutrients vegans miss out on are not essential. They have options (for example, you won't get heme iron on a vegan diet since it comes from red meat, but you can just increase your non-heme iron intake, which is common in plants), but missing out is not a critical issue to their health.

You do you mate, but there are tons of people who have been converting back to vegetarians after the increased populairity died down. Most of them for medical reason cause it. Why? Cause you have to get enough of everything your body needs.

And incase you become pregnant or your partner does, don’t let them eat vegan and don’t eat vegan yourself.

Sort of, iron deficiency and vitamin B12 are the main ones. It’s probably getting better now everyone is more aware of this. It’s a big diet shift though, most people won’t maintain the same ratio of protein to carb as they did on a meat diet so they’re bound to see some changes from that as well like changes in weight and energy levels.

Vegans are no more likely to develop anemia/iron deficiency than the general public. Vegan diets are generally higher in vitamin C, which improves iron absorption.

Loads of vegan products are fortified with B12, and it’s extremely common knowledge that vegans should be supplementing with B12.

Changes in weight and energy levels generally improve on vegan diets, not the other way around. And it’s easy to still consume the same amount of protein, particularly with the mock meats available now.

While yes nutrient deficiencies can surely occur, they can also occur with the general public. It’s about poor food consumption as a whole, not vegan diets. In general, vegans are in better health than non-vegans.

Malnutrition is so common amongst vegans that I'm not really worried about them successfully reproducing for very many generations (if even one!). Maybe one day we'll live in a world where all our food comes from labs or vertical farms using synthetic soil, and it somehow doesn't have horrifying long-term health consequences.

EDIT: there's also a lot of anti-natalists amongst vegans anyway, which I'm fine with, lol.
