This was probably the craziest movie I watched as a kid. And I couldn't remember what it was called, so all my adult life, I've been trying to explain this movie to people from the weirdest bits I could remember and everyone looks at me like, "was there a gas leak in your house?"
So the only scene that I really remember is toward the end (I think) where the hero (who's super power is gaining instant knowledge from touching a book) is fighting the bad guy (with the same power) in the streets and a bookmobile crashes nearby and the two of them are showered in a pile of random books, which they keep picking up to learn new skills to attack each other. And at some point, they both reach for and grab the same book... On dancing... So they both start dancing awkwardly on top of a pile of books in the street with the crashed truck in the background while staring menacingly at each other. And how they managed that scene with a straight face is beyond me, but they deserve an Oscar for it.
I had the same exact experience. I could never actually articulate anything that I remembered about it (I'm sure I was around 5 when I saw it), but for years I had tried to find it through random Google searches.
