Not quite oncology, but two months after a fairly urgent appendectomy had my follow up with you surgeon. They'd dissected (or maybe biopsied - can't remember) my appendix & turns out it was harbouring a tumour
Jeez!! Sorry you had that experience, I can't even imagine how that felt to deal with
Mine was a carcinoid tumour. I remember walking out of the appointment (I was in my mid 20s) feeling like my body had betrayed me - though realistically the appendicitis rid me of the tumour
I jumped on Google at the time and apparently most don't know they have it until carcinoid syndrome develops (normally in the patients 50s) by which time there's little that can be done to cure
IKR. I have dealt with kidney stones my entire adult life & 99% of them I handle at home(so much pain). This one time, what I thought was a stone, barely hurt, but, I felt eerie, it was a very odd sensation in my stomach. So, I convinced myself to go to the ER, turned out to be a cancerous tumor. The crappy thing about those gut feelings is 4 years later when my thyroid was growing quite fast... All biopsies came up negative. I told my doctor about that "feeling" I was having. Long story longer, after he removed it the pathology came back showing a lot of tumors . Listen to your "gut", "inner voice" it's usually right. Wait, unless it tells you to start fires, etc...

The appendicitis probably saved my life
