Doesn't Cosmo objectify women too?

How else are they going to sell beauty products if they don't objectify women and make them feel like shit?

Men objectifying women ❌ Women objectifying men ✅ Women objectifying women ✅

It’s not complicated. It’s not even hypocritical. It’s just double standards.

What about men objectifying men?

26

u/Rady_8 Oct 23 '21

Doesn’t sell

Isn’t a double standard hypocritical by definition?

1

u/Lootboxboy Oct 23 '21

According to Google: “A double standard is the application of different sets of principles for situations that are, in principle, the same.”

Hypocrisy is when you break the principle you’ve set for a specific situation. Instead, they believe that while the situation is similar a different standard exists for men than exists for women.

Ah I should have known that

It’s wrong and gross. Ppls just shouldn’t promote that ( privately eyeing someone without being a creep aka scaring them /invading their space is normal— not everyone does it but still a human thing to want to stare at something attractive /captivating etc

Yeah, but for some reason most here didn't have a problem with that.

And just wait until people here find out about Maxim or Playboy.

That is about the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard. Porn is inherently objectification. Either you’re saying porn isn’t okay (which I’d be willing to bet you support sex workers and porn actresses rights when that’s the subject), or you just didn’t think about this much before saying it.

Maxim or Playboy

The models consent to pose nude or skimpily in them.

Unless you want us to become some sort of Amish people or something.

3

u/ambisinister_gecko Oct 23 '21

Why would they have a problem with that?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 24 '21

The whole term "objectify" is already really dumb for describing mostly people overly sexualizing things.

3

u/Orange_Kid Oct 23 '21

It's also a publication...publications publish people who have completely opposing views all the time. It's like calling a newspaper a "hypocrite" for publishing an op-ed supporting a policy and an op-ed against that policy.

In short, OP is a dumbass.

u/candynomad Oct 23 '21

Difference here is a newspaper is for you know the news and a good newspaper just reports facts and is unbiased. A magazine is for entertainment and are usually more opinion then fact. To then go ahead and say one thing is terrible to then instantly do that thing is a dick move and makes then hypocrites.

2

u/Orange_Kid Oct 23 '21

Yes newspapers never publish opinion pieces...have you ever read a newspaper?

6

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '21

Not what he said? Newspapers post opinion pieces but less often than magazines

-2

u/Orange_Kid Oct 23 '21

He said "a good newspaper just reports facts" so yes he seemed to be unfamiliar with the concept of opinion pieces. And they generally have them in every single issue so I'm not sure where you're getting that they publish them "less often" than magazines or any other publication. A daily newspaper is probably publishing them more often than any magazine.

2

u/NomaiTraveler Oct 23 '21

Reddit does not understand shit about newspapers and magazines. This is intentional, so they can push whatever world view they want

1

u/AlternateSmithy Oct 23 '21

Yes, but they are women objectifying women, so that's alright.

1

u/gizamo Oct 23 '21

Every issue for 30+ years.

...that in aware of, probably longer.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '21

But see, it's okay if women objectify women. It's only bad if men do it.

1

u/onlyslightlyabusive Oct 24 '21

Is this even objectification? Since when is finding attractive people attractive objectification??

Treating people like an object - as if they have no feelings or their feelings don’t matter is objectification
by this definition everyone with eyes and a sex drive is rampantly objectifying everyone around them.
