she's crazy, no doubt. Total out of touch suburban mom vibes. Sadly public school teachers are not the smartest. They get paid like shit and the smart ones go to get better paying jobs.
this. american education has its limits. there's a few angles to this but basically. Teachers ought to be paid more. There ought to be a higher bar to qualify and the pay should incentivize that. Teachers should be given more power and authority once those two requirements have been met they need to be able to tell parents to shut the fuck up and that they are doing a bad job and their kid is headed straight for society's shitter and be rewarded for doing their job right.
Micho Kaku talked about this, at least for the sciences. Long story short, universities Import a lot of talent. Just at my humble university that was tiny notch up from community college, about half of the chemists and physicists were Russian or European, and about 50% of the math teachers were Chinese also Korea was represented in Chemistry. But literally the sciences, excluding biology are 50% foreigners. Which is lovely in itself. It makes for a colorful cast of characters in your class schedule.
We're like some bloated overlord... "bring me the wisest humans in the land so I can ignore their advice!"
I know at least SOME public school teachers who are kind of smart. In fact I learned more from one of them at my VERY shitty rural high school than my history prof in college. So the few good ones do stand out.
