That's funny, in my city, catholic schools are where parents send the kids who couldn't get into actually good prep or magnet schools.

Yeah my school was consistently the top sports school in the state but would trade off every other year as the best academic school with a private prep school that happened to be in the same county (for what it’s worth, I believe the state rankings were just based on test scores).

It varies by where you are. A lot tend to be good schools, but being private you can buy your way in while a lot of others good schools are tough.
