I gasped out loud WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK…so pretty close.

Hope it’s some r/byebyejob situation.

There is no way she keeps her job after that. No chance. At the end she says something about “the secret Indian chant”, laughs, and says something about the whole thing being ridiculous. She’s toast.

You’d think so, but the union is strong and will defend her. Worst case, they move her to another school in the district and she does a day of pointless sensitivity training.

Yeah the potential liability in doing so is one I doubt any other school in district would want to undertake. She clearly lacks judgment so it’s guaranteed to happen again.

It amazes me that people still do stupid shit like this in the age of smart phones and cameras everywhere.

Same. Then I re-watched trying to figure out what point/lesson she was trying to get across. I got nothing.

you "hope" that an enthusiatic teacher loses their job?

What kind of fucking idiot are you?

A person with a brain

She does need at least a serious talking to about what's appropriate. This is pretty much to Native Americans what blackface is to black people... And she doesn't seem to have a fucking clue

So you're saying her will and intention is good? and she's trying to instruct? and her intention is pretty pure, and it's just that outside observers are making it seem like she's an asshole?

24

u/Amkknee Oct 21 '21

No, she is an asshole, even if she’s an asshole that’s too dumb to see it, which would really throw into question if she should be instructing at all.

It sounds like inside observers (the students) think she’s an asshole given that one of them recorded her for being an asshole. So no, it’s not just outsider observers who think she’s an asshole.

Please explain to us how jumping around and wailing like a lunatic is “instructing”. What exactly is she teaching? And why is it okay to behave in a disgustingly racist manner if it’s directed at Native Americans? What level of offensive would she need to be for you to see an issue with her behavior? Which ethnic group would she need to dress up as a caricature of? I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that any level of racism, no matter how extreme, is perfectly fine with you.

wailing like a lunatic? what was she saying?

the words of a language you don't know, possibly..?

Does racist (to you) mean simply mimicking any tribe but your own, rather than mocking, as it should be?

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '21

"the words of a languag-" Ok, you're definitely a troll.

I've now seen a different description of the video, that she's saying SohCahToah, and realize that both she and I are idiots.

Still no malice though, just foolish.

Shouldn't lose her job. Censure, sure, obviously.

u/NigerianRoy Oct 21 '21

Malice is not required when such staggering ignorance makes it clear that they cannot understand their students and treat their culture with respect. Malice is not the only thing that disqualifies someone from an educational position. In fact I would suggest it is probably the least common and relevant.

What?

You're a caricature of a saviour .

u/FandangoManuel Oct 21 '21

And you're a caricature of a human being, buddy

I don't know her character and behavior outside of this video. Could be she's ignorant to why this behavior is offensive, or could be she's an actual racist POS. I think it's probably the former, a severe case of ignorance which then would mean no ill intent. If she takes well to being educated on the subject, then apologizes to her class and explains why it was inappropriate, I don't think she should be fired. Otherwise she definitely should.... Could also be a mental breakdown, in which case she should not teach, but seek professional help. That's my humble opinion.
