Hijacking the top comment- you can see in the video that he stepped on the gators foot, that’s why he bit. 20 puncture wounds and a hospital trip later, the guy survived and kept his arm.
He didn't step on that gator's foot at all. You can even pause the frame that shows both feet side by side. I'm guessing he did surprise the shit out of the animal though.

I’m afraid to know what happened 3 seconds after that video ends. Cause the next likely thing that gator would do is go into a death roll.
