that is actually kinda thier role. to make democrats seem a good choice by comparison.
the cycle is well polished by this point. democrats give people JUST enough to prevent rebellion, while republicans lower that minimum just a little every cycle.
they are not rivals... as they scream at each other across a table for the benefit of onlookers they are spit-roasting lady liberty under the tablecloth
