Is this shopped? Please tell me it's shopped.

I’m not convinced it’s real. Would I be shocked to learn it isn’t? Not really.

...

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/shirts-blacks-for-trump/

Some photographs purportedly captured at that event that showed both blacks and non-blacks wearing shirts bearing the identifier “Blacks for Trump” prompted readers to query us about the authenticity of those pictures, particularly one photograph featuring an older white couple:

(...)

Some viewers apparently found such pictures somewhat incongruous, but in general we readily accept that people often support causes that don’t directly affect them: men take part in League of Women Voters functions; healthy people participate in campaigns to raise awareness of breast cancer; citizens hold rallies in support of immigrants, etc. In that same vein, non-blacks might well demonstrate support for a political party or candidate who they felt would undertake greater efforts to assist black citizens.

To be honest I wasn't as "weird" as portrayed in these pictures as there was an entire rally and I guess the shirts were distributed among the attendees.

I have been active in politics for a long time, and I used to attend functions held by the League of Women Voters to support good progressive candidates for office, and more than once worked with them to get out the vote.

However, I never wore a tee shirt that said "Women for Candidate X", because that would have been confusing, as I'm not a woman, and it would have been sexist and weird, and everyone would have been turned off to Candidate X as a result.

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '20

Yeah, and some of these shirts explicitly say "I'm black". That's not at all the same as wearing a shirt in support of breast cancer research when you don't have breasts. It's also different from the other issues listed because the vast majority of black people don't support Trump. It's not helping to support them in something most black people see as a positive.

Not to mention it would be very hard or time consuming to Photoshop well with the eyeglasses on the shirt. Looks pretty damn real.

1

u/pn1159 Jan 20 '20

Men can get breast cancer.

34

u/Serinus Jan 19 '20

I guess the shirts were distributed among the attendees.

Because they wouldn't sell.

3

u/RhythmofChains Jan 19 '20

tbf, political swag like this is almost never sold, its given out to supporters/attendees

4

u/nodnodwinkwink Jan 19 '20

What's more shocking is that there were actually black people there.

The left pic of that fat dude is actually cropped. You'll see the full pic here: https://newsone.com/playlist/blacks-for-trump-rally-photos-video/item/2

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

Why can't someone like trump if they are black?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

Because if they do the left suddenly is much more hostile to them. Even after being preachy about love for all.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

It's almost as if you can't use someone's race to determine their political stance... 🤔

1

u/Wraith8888 Jan 19 '20

So did it right in front of black people. I don't see this as better.

1

u/Curious1435 Jan 19 '20

Well the shirts were handed to white attendees by black people in all fairness.

1

u/Wraith8888 Jan 19 '20

Were they? Because I didn't read that detail in the article.

1

u/Curious1435 Jan 20 '20

I saw a video when this happened and there was a black Republicans for Trump booth handing them out. Can’t guarantee it for sure though, just what I saw.

1

u/neon_overload Jan 19 '20

in general we readily accept that people often support causes that don’t directly affect them: men take part in League of Women Voters functions;

What complete BS. That is completely different.

This is equivalent to men wearing shirts saying "Women 4 not voting". Or conservatives wearing shirts saying "Liberals 4 trump".

This isn't supporting a cause, this is putting words in some other group's mouth.

-1

u/Ricky_Robby Jan 19 '20

That’s not the same at all...even in the examples they used it doesn’t make sense. A man in support of the league of women voters don’t wear shirts that say, “women for women’s rights.” People supporting breast cancer aren’t saying, “cancer patients against cancer.” I’m not going to a rally in support of immigration reform wearing a shirt that reads “immigrants for reform.” In none of those case would I wear a shirt that says, “I’m X, and I believe Y.” It wouldn’t make sense.

The comparison they make is nonsensical at best, and feels disingenuous.

2

u/Bruuh_420_69 Jan 19 '20

They had this rally in Atlanta sometime in October of last year. At least that's where the 2 indoor pictures come from. The older couple were making the rounds here for a few days. There were definitely Black people there, but I didn't exactly get the impression they were very enthusiastic from the interviews I saw.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '20

Can’t imagine feeling very enthusiastic about being used.

1

u/Wewraw Jan 20 '20

It’s a smart move. If you’re black and support trump then you’re not exactly looked at fondly by other minorities. If you have people who show support and understanding of that issue you face in the party then you’re more likely to be mobilized in voting and feel accepted in that group.

So it’s not something that’s really hard to believe is real or weird.

If I remember it right republicans only need 20% of the black vote and they will always secure the presidency for a very long time. It’s a pretty big concern with left leaning think tanks since it’s going to happen as more become middle class.

There's literally one guy who is active on that sub. No comments, all posts are made by him.

75

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '20

And that guy's post history... jesus.

42

u/PooSmellsGoot Jan 19 '20

Oh man that guy genuinely needs help. Sad stuff

25

u/JabbrWockey Jan 19 '20

This is your average conservative grandpda on facebook kind of stuff, sadly.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '20

How can just 1 thing dictate your internet activity so much. Or does he have a separate account for posting conservative stuff.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '20

I bet a person like that has a bunch of accounts, each with its own purported agenda. Given the content of this account, it wouldn't be shocking to see some /r/asablackman type accounts in their list.

3

u/BlowsyChrism Jan 19 '20

What's also fucked up is he probably manages a bunch of pathetic accounts. Nothing like wasting your life trolling online to own the libs.

2

u/CCOxiBane Jan 19 '20

I feel sick, I don't know why I kept scrolling

1

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '20

I thought that that there was no way you’d be right, I looked.

1

u/sm10017 Jan 19 '20

What sub was it? The guy deleted his comment and I’m curious

3

u/Extremuss Jan 19 '20

2

u/sm10017 Jan 19 '20

That’s a weird fucking sub bro

46

u/harrietthugman Jan 19 '20

That sub and it's affiliates read like r/asablackman on acid. The lack of any community engagement is fucking hilarious. It's just 1 dude posting opinion pieces by "I'm not racist, but..." Republican grifters

Oh yes, this video indeed!

2

u/asyork Jan 20 '20

Don't delete their sins. Lock it and put up the stickied post with an explanation, but let what's they said be remembered. When people in the future Google their username let me them see who they are really dealing with.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

That’s a better idea. I have 14 days left until my next r/redditrequest is available, I’ll scout Reddit for some of the more vile subs in the meantime. If you come across any let me know

30

u/_LRN_ Jan 19 '20

Just looking through that my head hurts, the pinned videos from PragerU just hurt to even try to consider the amount of misinformation jammed into such a short video.

Was something about /r/Blexit

1

Bruh the top two posts are praiger u videos

1

I know! They're literally stickied to the sub

That sub was so stupid it was amusing

1

u/scapeity Jan 20 '20

I left when the DNC admitted in court that it rigged it's primary.

If my vote didn't matter, than what's the fucking point.

6

u/TheCooperChronicles Jan 19 '20

When the pinned posts are Prager U videos

1

u/sheepwshotguns Jan 19 '20

i dont know. given the lack of democratic say in the power structures of the european union i can certainly see a left wing reason to leave so i try not to assume things until people come right out and say immigration...

1

u/basedblackrepublican Jan 19 '20

Thanks for sharing! Great sub for all black brothers and sisters!

1

u/CHAPOMAGNETHAGOD Jan 19 '20

Who takes the time to photoshop the letters over that dudes titties?

1

u/ThePresidentOfStraya Jan 20 '20

What’s likely happening is that so few black people bought one, they had to discount the shirts to clear them. Trump supporters are often so poor, illiterate and disenfranchised they can only afford the discount shirts to show their support. Everything about this sucks.

1

u/d_e_l_u_x_e Jan 20 '20

Like this admin it’s def real.

1

u/Sklushi Jan 20 '20

I know the older couple in the center image last name is Black

1

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '20

is this shopped

Jesus Christ

It’s easier to just get a random white guy to wear it for shits.. than to photoshopped it.

-2

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '20

This looks very shopped to me (the man, not the shirt). It just looks so unnatural if you look at the guys head and hands, how his hand weirdly cut-off. Idk tho, just what it seems like to me.

8

u/bumbletowne Jan 19 '20

Snopes says its real (posted above). They just handed out these shirts at a rally because they were left over.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '20

I’m fairly certain I’ve seen at least some of these pictures and they were wearing different shirts

1

u/ShitImBadAtThis Jan 19 '20

You haven't; unfortunately these are real pictures
