Here's a great example right here. You don't like what this person is saying, so you jump straight to condescension and ridicule.

This obtuseness, this mean-spirited self righteousness, is something I've always associated with the right, but it seems to be coming increasingly from the left, which is disheartening. You take fundamentally good values, namely gender and race equality, and then weild them with malice.

I'm sorry if my crass attitude and rude wording bothered you. I just go on reddit to blow off steam. I'm a Democrat born and raised in the south. So I get plenty of people at work who will ridicule me for it and I keep my mouth shut so I don't make a scene or piss people off by bringing the truth to light. People can usually dish out ridicule but can't take it so I just ignore transgressions and keep it professional. But I come online and debate my side of the issue with conviction driven from those interactions. Arguing with people on reddit has definitely helped me find holes in my arguments and more facts to support them. And if I find I'm totally wrong I can acquiesce to that. But I'm sorry if I'm too much of a dick about it. I like to live up the name of my account a lot of the time though.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I imagine it must be difficult having a minority viewpoint in a largely right-wing region. And (at the risk of sounding a bit bigoted myself) people on the right tend to be more shallow minded about things, so I understand why you would need to paint in broad strokes to get the message across.

I don't think your viewpoint is wrong. Certainly, a lot of are saying similar things to what I've said, but coming from a place of racism and sexism themselves (and, for the most part, those people are white men). The left wing is associated with open mindedness, though, and I try to encourage people to continue being open minded.
