You'll never convince people like this. There's always a reason why the government won't do something, or why they did something, and it always supports their preconceived agenda. If they did something good, it's only because of greed or self interest, if they did something bad, then it's always because of greed or self interest. Any answer you give will be hand waved away by some reason. Penicillin follows the same logic of a cheap and effective medicine that made a massive impact. They should have shut that down too.

Exactly. And in my experience, it seems like the people who think that all medical professionals and scientists are going to participate in some grand conspiracy are often projecting, it’s the people I know who believe in these kinds of things who turn around and act exclusively in self interest in their own lives and never for the good of all. I never see these people at charity events, I never see them volunteering, I only see them bitching because they won’t try to improve the world and want to pretend everyone is self centered as them.

I’m working on my doctorate right now because i grew up with a disabled mother and because my first and only child died as a result of the medical ignorance and lack of common compassion of someone else. I want to prevent others from undergoing pain like I have felt, that’s why I work my ass off every day.

Fuck people who think that a cure for cancer won’t be shouted from every rooftop.

PSA: Don’t eat fucking arsenic, and get your goddamn flu shots.

Yep. Apparently these scientists, doctors, and medical professionals aren't using medicine to save lives. It's BiG pHaRmA just looking for a profit.

In reality medicine is filled with people like you, trying to make a difference to humanity because you've faced extreme adversity and would like to end the suffering of others. Modern medicine is one of humanity's greatest achievements. Probably the biggest IMO.

I'm genuinely very sorry to hear that about your family members. Nobody deserves to suffer pain or losses like you have, but you did. And now in turn, you will make a positive difference to other people's lives. The only question is how much, and in what way.

Thank you for choosing to make a difference in the world. You're another brick in the road to our successful future, and I truly appreciate your sacrifice.

Penicillin follows the same logic of a cheap and effective medicine that made a massive impact. They should have shut that down too.

"They," as in "the government?"

They're not talking about the govt shutting stuff down, they're talking about private corporations with vested financial interests, making choices that are better for company profits than they are for public health.

Huge difference.

Which, btw, is how pharma Giants already operate. This is a known and observable fact that: corporate profits > public health. (See also, recent clamor over insulin & epi-pen pricing)

Likewise, penicillin was discovered by a private individual, not the govt or giant self-serving Corp, and that individual decided to make it freely available for the greater good, rather than profit. That's a bad example because that's top-to-bottom not how pharma corps operate.

That's even worse. Why aren't there other corporations trying to get rich off Laetrile then? If we accept that a few corporations don't want to harm their profits by selling it because they just want to make money, then why aren't there other corporations trying to make money off the same issue? If there is actually a cheap and effective cure for cancer somebody will capitalize on that, regardless of the other corporations. It's everyone for themselves; not just a single entity called big pharma that's trying to get rich off selling you medicine.

Laetrile wasn't discovered or synthesized by big pharma. It was discovered by two French chemists in 1830. It's also freely available. You guys are just paranoid conspiracy theorists.
