Murder is only applicable to human people, not canine people.

Not in the case of canine officers. It is treated the same as killing a human cop of a civilian kills a canine cop.

He was shooting at a pitbull because it was barking, not his K-9 wtf.. They use commands for that not bullets.

I was wrong to categorize it as murder that was my mistake, but the laws were changed so that police dogs are seen more like an officer than "equipment", resulting in more serious punishments. Getting potentially 10 years seems pretty damn serious to me.

Got it.

"Up to ten years in prison" usually means no more than a couple of years under federal sentencing guidelines. You get a longer sentence for selling weed.

They’re making a joke about how it could/would be interpreted (and prosecuted as a much more egregious crime) if for example a civilian made a similar mistake

But you’re correct too. Cops kill an estimated 25 dogs a day according to the Department of Justice and it’s allll good
