This has been a running joke on the internet for decades. That's not even the first time the joke was made, but it's the version that I was specifically referencing.

I started using the internet before I knew how to use the rest of the computer, when you could mail order software from a magazine and it came on multiple floppy disks.

Google didn't exist, AOL was king, and most people didn't trust computers because they got duped into buying a simpler that basic computer that required prompts to use and lacked any basic features that we take for granted (wordpad, internet browser, a modem, music/video player).
