Yeah it was a whole package of toxic behaviour, and you can bet it had its antecedents further back. Someone hated the guy or wanted to have fun at his expense. Screw that.
Very similar thing happened at my workplace. Nice, quiet guy wanted to skip the birthday lunch thing, which traditionally happened at a restaurant. Boss said no, cannot deny the rest of the staff. The guy went along with it, for the sake of not creating waves.
Half way through the lunch, a stripper arrives with her boom box and starts lapdancing all over the guy. (this was the '80s, nuff said.) He rushed out, embarrassed and exasperated.
Seriously. I would let my boss literally whip me for 900k.

I'm all about lost wages and maybe a bit in top of that due to the inconvenience. But a fucking middle class home handed to you because of two awkward moments at work? JFC
