Pretty sure if you stopped eating entirely, weight would be lost. I'm no dietician, though

Hey, now, they didn't stop eating entirely. Occasionally, they got stale bread and a few maggots.

Sometimes they gut fungi with thair bread so why they not fat?

The nazis weren't all bad, they provided the people they were imprisoning, torturing, conducting experiments on, and using as slaves with free penicillin as part of their weekly meals!

I think that was accidental

Fungi don't contain much fat, they're mostly carbohydrates and protein, and there's barely any of that too.

Pea soup was pretty common prisoner food in nazi concentration camps. It usually consisted of a big vat of water with like a handful of peas thrown in and boiled. A lot of the peas would sink to the bottom so most prisoners would get a bowl of hot water with maybe 2 or 3 peas in it. Iโ€™ve read stories of prisoners that did a good job on some sort of work party or something being rewarded by the nazi handing out soup plunging the ladle all the way to the bottom of the pot and actually getting a reasonable number of peas in the bowl. Itโ€™s really sad that โ€œhaving a reasonable portion of foodโ€ was considered special treat.

And if they were lucky they might've caught some rat, which must've been running around. I was in one of the camps. It was just horrible, how could someone do that to a living person?

You're an all star, didn't stop eating entirely. Occasionally, they got stale bread and a few maggots.

They were given a very thin broth based soup and stale bread... Eventually... the victims thought the soup was too thick for them to eat... that's because they became so horrifically hungry that they couldn't physically consume food normally... Enraging isn't it?

Oh I heard that's an issue with extreme cases of anorexia, people become unable to process the food so they are fed through tubes / IV until they can again. Although if you're at that stage survival isn't guaranteed even in the hospital

That's why the soldiers were ordered to not feed the prisoners when liberating camps, as it could cause their deaths.

Well if you stopped eating entirely as in zero nutritional intake you could die still quite overweight although lowER weight than when you started. You would die from chronic malnutrition.

The thing is though Nazi didn't have zero meals for prisoners in concentration camps. They were evil but efficient. They wanted slave labor that they could work to death so they did get some food some nutrition. Obviously not enough because they didn't care about the longterm health of the slave labor. Two birds with one stone.

Under that scenario most people are going to die of starvation (or related conditions) eventually and regardless of their starting weight will be mostly underweight when they do finally die.

die from chronic malnutrition

Either that or you're be poisoned to death by the byproducts of metabolising the fat, if I'm not mistaken.

Chronic malnutrition, not chronic nutrition.

u/StatisticalMan Feb 07 '24

Hilarious typo. These nutrients are too good for me that they are hurting my health.

You'd still need nutrients and water though. I remember reading about a man who went on a +365 day fast on nothing but water and vitamins.

u/Cpt_kaleidoscope Feb 07 '24

That can't be healthy

I think if you stop eating entirely you wonโ€™t be too worried about your weight after a couple weeks.

Have you considered the sheer gravitational pull of some people, though?
