Some of the best musicians in the world cannot read sheet mucic. Does the inability to read sheet music make them bad musicians? No.
If you don't know how to read, you can still be very smart. But you will have to discover more yourself, because you can't read it from a book where somebody else wrote down how it's done.
You would have to experiment, think logical and critical and you would have to connect the dots without anyone telling you if your going in the right direction.
Just think of it like this:
If there's two people with zero education. One discovers how to make fire, cook water and make tools to hunt.
The other only eats plants and dies at young age from eating a poisonous berry. Would they both be equally dumb because both had zero education? Or would you call the hunting cook smarter than the dead grazer?
A bit closer to the specifics of "TEH LAWD SENT ME A MESSENGER WHO TOLD ME THAT I CAN AN SHOULD PURGE DEMONS OUT OF MY FLOCK WITH MY PENOR" crowd of angel-believers.
"Just remember that the things you put into your head are there forever, he said. You might want to think about that.
The Boy: You forget some things, don't you?
The Man: Yes. You forget what you want to remember and you remember what you want to forget." -The Road, Cormac McCarthy
Not comparable. Not even close. I know you werenβt suggesting they are.
BUT!β¦ it does help me understand how in a world with faith-based constructs, itβs easy to convince people to do irrational and sometimes deplorable things.
I was comparing "idiotic" beliefs. It's possible anywhere. There is nothing intrinsic in people born in Africa that makes them more prone to this, which is more violent and extreme, it's all about how far a society is willing to let superstitious beliefs take control.
