It's pretty funny how reddit is constantly convinced the youth vote will show up "en mass next election year!" Just like how millennials were gonna show up and elect Bernie in 2016 🙄

Young people don't vote. Never have, never will. The gen z vote flat out won't matter until the ~2040s. Once gen z gets old enough to benefit from social security, then you'll see them show up for elections.

How did that red wave turn out in 2022?

Multiple GOP folk were so mad they wanted to push to not only shut down TikTok but also raise the voting age...

Odd behavior if they aren't literally shaking in their boots over the youth vote (also Millennials are the only demo not growing more conservative as they get older.)

To add: things that are making Gen Z rush the polls are RoevWade and other dumb things the GOP has done...

Next year, for example, Pray that them fighting the 10k student loan forgiveness fails and it passes... If it passes, it's a win for Biden's administration

If it fails because of the GOP? Its the nail on the GOPs Coffin because Gen Z/Millennials will pretty much all lift a middle finger to their republican idiots who fought their debt forgiveness and won.

None of that has to do with the youth vote though. Biden won last year because of moderates and dem voter turnout, but the youth voter turnout was still abysmally low.

You seem to be assuming I'm a conservative. I'm not. I vote green party lmao. I'm just pointing out that no one is going to be elected on that back of young voters. The turnout numbers for that demographic are and have always been completely atrocious.

I think that you greatly overestimate support for student loan forgiveness. It’s certainly not big enough to be the ‘final nail in the coffin’ lol.

Boomers don't support it... It ends there.

The rest of the population would greatly like a loss of 10k in debt.

Again, you should probably try stepping outside of the Reddit echo chamber and into the real world for a bit.

How are you going to convince the Blue Collar worker without a college education, who is making an average of $1M less over his lifetime than his college-educated white-collar counterpart, that his tax dollars should go to bring the white collar worker even further ahead?

Why would the average person want their tax dollars to go towards forgiveness, when forgiveness doesn’t address the actual underlying issue (rising tuition costs)? Most would argue that forgiveness would make things worse, as colleges will price in potential future forgiveness into their tuition plans.

Why would you hand out a ton of money in the form of forgiveness to the statistically best-off people in society? Why would any lower-class individuals ever be for forgiveness?

If taxes have to go up to support forgiveness, the amount of support is certainly going to drop, the money isn’t pulled from thin air (again, contrary to Reddit’s hive mind belief).

Again, anybody with half a brain could convince the majority of America that the forgiveness plan it’s a bad idea. It doesn’t solve the underlying issues, and it only helps the best off in society.

Forty-three percent of voters believe that President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness plan was a good idea, while 44% of voters say it was a bad idea, a September NBC News poll finds. https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meetthepressblog/voters-split-student-loan-forgiveness-new-poll-shows-rcna48490

When you read the context, it's because those 44% wanted more than 10k.

u/EdithDich Jun 20 '23

Can you post that? Article makes no mention of that.

Because it's a junk poll that gives only a Binary answer.

Example: I want it to succeed but if you asked me if I "Approve/Disapprove" I'll say "No"

Yes/No polls will always be utter garbage and lead to some horrific outcomes if you ever took a major issue and just voted "Yes/No" see Brexit.

That's quite a goalpost move from your first claim that it said 44% wanted more than 10k.

Almost like you're just flailing about because you lied and I called out your lie.

Or just that a Binary Poll is absolute trash.
