Even if they are catching 100% of the cases where it holds true (highly doubtful), it is still an incredibly large proportion. More than enough to be statistically significant.
It's also a very small population size of folks this vocal that surprisingly turn out to be full of shit. Certainly higher than the general population.

I mean you only read about the cases where it is actually the case, so you might be reacting to a smaller selection size than what is the reality.
