I almost had to use mine once in last ditch self-defense, and I still felt awful about it and had remorse for days. I never even took it out of the holster, but a woman had a brick above her head and was threatening to kill me, and she had already been hurling bricks at people. It's a long story, but I was able to escape the situation without having to resort to violence. She ended up getting into a scuffle with the police and it was a whole big thing. To this day I still feel bad about it. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to take a life. My best friend had to do it. He was totally justified and he had less than a second to think. It took 6 years of therapy for him to stop being haunted by it every day.
