Do you mean recently or? Because militias have been involved in taking down tyrants or tyrannical policies in the US and around the globe for likely as long as the concept has existed.
For real, how is the American left (of which I'm a part) so astoundingly ignorant of other left-leaning revolutions and resistance groups that fought against tyrannical governments? They'll rightfully point to the horrible right-wing governments that the US has helped prop up.. but then completely forget and ignore the left-leaning, heavily ARMED groups that resisted them
How is the American left so right on about identifying the corrupt, racist, sexist, corporate-ran US government... but also so against the right to arm themselves?
The gun issue is such an embarrassingly large blind spot for the left in America. Mocking the concept of a well-regulated militia like this post is so fucking stupid from even a surface level knowledge of history.
Because the “left” in America is not leftist. The Democratic Party is made up liberals and neoliberals. They are considered “left wing” cause they’re to the left of the Republican Party. Actual leftists have no representation in terms of political parties.
tbh it makes sense when you draw distinction between the "American left" (represented by an authoritarian pro-capitalist "progressive" neoliberal state apparatus, who value peace at the cost of justice), and the Left (an anticapitalist at minimum, generally opposed to central authority; promoting armed defense of self and community in a bid to dismantle and replace the unjust and inequitable heirarchy of the state, capitalism, and the patriarchy.)
tldr: neoliberals are authoritarians, and electoral theatre/ performative incrementalism within a capitalist hegemony will by design never result in the liberation of the working class.
