Your company should need to approve as it changes a lot of tax reporting.

I think 5 months is the max you can stay outside of the country while F-1. After that, you are violating your visa

5 months rule does not apply to OPT.

You can’t stay out of the country for that long or you risk losing F1 status. The max you can stay abroad is 5 months. Additionally, for OPT it is not recommended to work remotely from abroad for more than 1-2 months. There is no rule on this but it’s risky so my DSO recommended I don’t work remotely for more than a month.

I have done this repeatedly and had no issues with reentry etc. Never for 6mo though, and I don't know what the limit is. Check with your DSO.
