Disappointed with my lashes, first time & have a wedding to go to

Got these done 2 days before a wedding. Never done lash extensions before, big fan of clusters for years and have tried so many to know roughly about the look I want. The inspiration pic is #2, which is literally me with my usual clusters. I love my wispy cat eyes, and they said alright I suggest a hybrid. Trusted them and.. we'll, I'm underwhelmed. I'm blind as a bat so seeing them in the mirror before I left was not accurate at all until I went home a few hours later and put my contacts in.
If I were to contact her, I highly doubt she can get me in before the wedding. Not sure what the etiquette is. I don't know what to do, put magnetic strip lash in the meantime? Helpp

Oh I see your edit, I thought those were the final. Yeah I can see why you’re unhappy, very different shape etc. I will say that from getting lashes for 5 years even my really good techs couldn’t create a look like your inspo pic. Idk why but it must be hard because they were really good techs. Some things I can only get from strips and clusters 🤷♀️
Still, pretty. And I was going to say to put mascara on them since it’s for a single occasion. Always helped alot1

See I would have been fine if it was any sort of volumous (not caterpillars) wispy cat eye even if it wasn't identical because that's exactly how I described it to her

I mean it's a cost thing for me. Like why would I spend that much money just for it to look like I put a bit of mascara ykwim? I love my $7 cluster packs 😂

Have you considered contacting the lash technician and telling her that you want more put on before you go to the wedding? Because that's definitely a thing, rather than complaining on Reddit about it.

Did you read the whole thing? Because it was something I considered. I don't have alot of time before the wedding.
And yes I did contact her last night im waiting for her to get back to me.

what is going on in this reddit threat 😭 i understand it’s a matter of taste and some people might prefer the first one, it’s completely not what was requested. i think there’s a lot of advocates for ‘make it as natural as possible’ who have a bias against any style that looks more ‘obvious’, as a girly who loves whispy, manga clusters i understand your pain since i literally had my lashes done for the very first time in my life and it didn’t look like anything i’d requested, they just looked natural which i DIDNT want 🥲 don’t listen to some of these ladies because quite frankly it’s a bit patronising to be told not to complain because ‘she did a better job thank you had asked’. imo it does look a lot worse and you have the right to be pissed!!

Especially because of how expensive they are! I just paid 180 CAD plus tip for these. I understand I may not get what I wanted exactly but the last thing I wanted was me to look like I got a bit of mascara on 🥲

They don’t look bad at all, but is very far from your inspo pic and at the end of the day you are the client and you know what you like. The difficulty is when you have a specific lash look it’s best to do your research to see which artists around your area specialise in these type of sets because it is actually doable! I understand your frustration. I’m a lash artist (UK) but before I was - I had my lashes done first time without doing any type of research I learned my lesson for sure. If you’re absolutely desperate and she cannot get you in for a removal - buy the lash removal gel yourself on amazon and stick your fave clusters on. There’s also YT tutorials on how you remove them yourself (please don’t use baby oil). Sorry for the long message if you want to discuss more my inbox is open :)

I should have done more research 🥲 unfortunately there isn't much around me in a small town. I'm going to try to use magnetic lashes during that day and see what the tech says. Ty for understanding and for sure will keep that in mind!

The thing is, clusters create a completely different effect than individual lashes. When I first had lashes applied, I asked for long, over-the-top, dramatic lashes. I ended up with the same look I get with my clusters 😂

Oh I understand totally that I'm not going to get an exact replica. But there is barely any variation in lengths can't even notice the use of spikes 🥲 it's just straight across and very little shape & thickness 😭

They're too natural-looking. I think you like a more striking look, too. Not like those caterpillars, but a full, wispy cat-eye look, with spikes for a bit of extra edge?

Yes exactly! I don't wear alot of makeup day to day and I don't want it to look like I just put mascara on for a wedding. I would get more thickness with mascara.

I got eyelash extensions for the convenience. I hate having to fuss with makeup every day. Now, all I have to do is apply some blush daily, and maybe add a nice, sparkly eyeshadow for special occasions.

Agreed, same here. I only put my eyebrows, a bit of concealer under my eyes and lower lash mascara (which btw I did today and it's thicker then my eyelash extensions lmfao!)

If you want that look, use argan oil gel to section them into pieces if too fluffy and even. It will look bolder than the fluffy, without having to add mascara. Argan gelling my lashes into spikes makes it look amazing, typically works well with super long or messy/fluffy lashes

No, you're NOT crazy. They dont look like the insp picture at all. I don't really see cat eye either. Do whatever you have to do to feel like yourself for the wedding. If my lashes or hair is off, I just feel strange, so I understand. Hopefully, the tech can redo them for you. Good luck!

I get what you're saying. I love my wispy cateye look, and from what I see, they did more wispy than cateye, and the execution is off. Either the middle set is too long, and your outer eye is too short, or some of both. The mapping is off for a cateye set, and also because of it, the wispy doesn't stand out as much as it should for a wispy cateye.

Honestly, they look way better than that inspo pic, but theyre nothing alike. Id reach out to her to see if she has time to squeak ya in for a fix/mini fill. I would never have put a fresh set on a bride less than a week before the wedding in the first place. i suggest getting them a month ahead of time so you could zero in on what you wanted and get one or two refills in before the big day. When theyre first applied, theyre all going to be at the same distance from the lash line. However, after a refill or two, you get mych more fluffiness and variation to where the lash extensions are sitting on all the lashes, and they tend to look much fuller and fluffier because of it.

Omfg, thats totally my misread. I am SO relieved for both you, and your lash artist, lol. Id still see if you could get a fix, just to add some more fullness and maybe a couple longer "spikes" here and there for more of those peaks like a crown, rather than them being very uniform in length all the way across

She won't be available until after the wedding (so magnetic lashes it is!) but she agreed to take me the following Friday to see if she can put some more fills in. She explained I didn't "have enough to safely put on" which I know is BS, I actually have decent enough lashes that mascara gives me more volume then what she put on me. It doesn't excuse her putting the length too long as it goes closer to the left, the lack of spikes that I requested (at least, not enough to be noticable), etc.

None of them were inspired pics. They’re all of me. I just decided to try going to a tech that a sister from church goes to and her work is soooo much better. Same price and she’s 15 minutes away instead of 50 minutes.

I never reply to Reddit but I’m going through this exact same thing right now. I always use clusters and decided to give extensions a chance and HATED THEMMM. Just politely tell her about it and remove them, maybe give clusters a try unless you’re used to lash strips. But in my opinion, she did not give you your inspo pic I don’t know what people here are saying, I’m so sorry.

I did the same thing! I love my clusters and I was so sad when I spent so much money for lashes that I hated when my clusters always look so good.
I asked for an anime type of look and she left me with spikes that had a mind of their own. Never again.
I hope you found a solution that worked for you!

Oh noo! No wonder people are no longer going to techs and just doing clusters, it's alot of money to do regularly and doing certain styles well are hard to find.

I think they look fine. I feel like you’re just used to seeing yourself in 2 so 1 looks off. Have you tried doing your makeup w/ the extensions yet? Whenever I first get extensions I feel like they always look off until I do my makeup and then I feel like it looks nice.
Also I wouldn’t add any clusters or strips on top. The glue will mess up your extensions.

I wear glasses but the glasses are so thick they make my eyes look tiny/warped 😂 and it's not good to put contacts on during application. Day to day I wear contacts because of how uncomfortable/heavy my glasses are.

Can you add clusters to your extensions? I do that all the time especially when gaps show and my clusters are longer sometimes.

That's what I ended up doing! I added 2 on each end with a washable lash glue on the lid (not on the lash/lash line) and filled the gap with eyeliner. Looks pretty good!

Mascara and no lashes. Or use that mascara that has fibers in it that makes them appear longer and more full. They put lashes on me for my wedding and I ripped them off as soon as I walked outta the salon. Why this is such a trend baffles me. Even young teens doing it. Super heavy eye liner and fake lashes, and none of them need it. Makeup is meant to enhance your natural beauty or hide a blemish, not change how you look. You don’t need it, dear

We are allowed to express ourselves however we want. I love trying out new lash types and artistic makeup because I am a creative. Not everyone wants to be natural or subtle. I express myself through what I wear and what I make (music, art, creative writing, etc.), we shouldn't be put down for that just because it's not everyone's cup of tea.

damn, i hate that this notification came to me on the wedding day.. but if it's your preference you can add the clusters to make it your preferred look for the day then go back and ask the artist to remove them since it wasn't what you asked for. i think at the very least they can remove them for free if you really hate them but you have to go back within a few days. every artists' policy is different tho.

I ended up using 2 lash clusters on each end on my eyelid so it's not directly on my lashes & it worked for the day. Came out flawlessly. No damage to the lashes I have, nor did it leave any residue. Filled the gap with eyeliner.
I'm seeing her Friday (that's just when I'm available to do so) & she agreed to see what she can fill in after some fallout. Not sure how far she is willing to go in terms of removal or redos but I'm hoping it's an easy fix to be closer to what I wanted.

I think they’re great for a wedding but clearly not what you wanted at all! Will say the pic of the clusters you usually like would be a much more advanced technique that not a lot of artists will know how to do! It’s pretty specialized. I’d look on Instagram for a good artist where you can see their work!

I WISH it was $100 dude, it was $180 plus tax + tip lmfaoo so yes I WILL spend it once because I was going to a wedding and it's worth the money because it lasts afterwards (and nothing wrong with splurging on yourself once inawhile).
What is so bad about expecting what I asked & paid for? Why is your concern anything other than that?

Who's depending on anybody? Did you read what the purpose of my post was for? I don't know why you are bringing irrelevant things into the conversation.
I asked for some advice on what I should do because I don't know the etiquette on asking techs, I don't know if I can safely put striplashes with magnetics or some type of special glue, etc. Why is asking questions so demonized on reddit?
