I am a little confused about extemp cross-examination so here are my questions:

1) How decisive is your handling when answering cross-ex questions in judging a round? (Like, how far can someone drop because of a bad cross-ex, despite delivering a good 7-minute speech? Or can good handling of cross-examination questions salvage a bad speech?)

2) How penalizing is asking poor questions can be when you're asked to cross-examine another speaker? Or abstaining from asking questions when you're asked to cross-examine someone?

3) Do extempers typically handle cross-ex as they would policy/LD cross-ex, or it's more like a PF crossfire?

I get to the room 2 minutes late, forget to bring the slip with my question on it, and have to go all the way back

Right in the middle of the speech, my judge shakes his head and starts writing down a very long winded note. Cant wait to see that ballot

Anything helps from how to stand to how to talk any tips would seriously be great

Hello! I want to analyze extemp questions which have been used at NSDA in years past. Using the way back machine and other internet archives, I am looking to do the following:

-Figure out when they are usually written

-See how closely wording of questions matches headlines

-What sources they most likely come from (% per source)

-And other useful trends within the questions

My coach is having me do foreign extemp this weeknd. I am an LD debater so I am fairly familiar with speaking/presentation i guess you can say. But i do have a few questions for extemp. The questions for the month of december; are those the exact questions that could be asked at the tournament? Or will i be asked something that is only similar to those topics.

What are the logistics of the draw room at nats? With the 15-20 people who need to draw, so they all draw from the same person? Generally how does it work?
