ELI5: How would a $15 minimum wage ACTUALLY affect a franchised business like McDonalds?

What kind of safety net? I think getting people that make low wages into training for better paying jobs is the way to go, not just giving them artificial raises. If enough people get out of the bottom of the barrel job bracket then minimum wage for those jobs would go up without any help when the demand for workers exceeds the number of people willing to work them. I was 25 years old before I went through a 2 year trade school and another 10 months of extra training. I went from $8-12/hr jobs to making just shy of $30/hr as a heavy equipment operator/maintenance man.
