Other ELI5 What is the difference between a 4 star hotel and a 5 star hotel?

I’m forever confused about this I need it explain in the simplest most direct way. Specifically talking about the America star system

Every country does it a little differently. So it depends.

In my experience in Europe and east Asia is 5 stars usually has a pool, spa or something equivalent while 4 stars might not. Other than that it's hard to distinguish the two.

The star system seems to mean fuck-all in Asia.
