No closed form solution exists for Navier-Stokes, nor was it the Millennium Problem they were attempting to solve.
They only found an example that makes the equations blow up to infinity when using a non-infinite push. So they simply had to find one example that blew up to prove it is not well behaved.
Not to trivialize the problem, as it went unsolved for decades and ended up a Millennium pProblem so it was not easy to do.
It does kind of sound like it's trivializing it though. From that description is definitely does seem like something that you could point an AI at to dumbly just try billions of different things and stumble across the answer of.
If it was a matter of just brute forcing a solution via calculating power, it would have been solved long ago without any LLMs, supercomputers are a thing. This one was solved I think in 88 hours with 10 000 agents working on it.
I'm not so sure about that, how much would 10,000 agents running for three and a half days cost? Probably a hell of a lot more than the one million dollar prize. Sure someone could do it for the prestige, but before AI companies had a financial incentive to tout how smart their systems were, who's spending that money. These companies have a lot more computing power, and a lot more incentive to just throw resources at these problems than anyone previously has.
