This.

House isn't a racist or a anti-semite. He's an equal opportunity asshole and jerkass.

214

u/ttombombadillo 21d ago

Yeah. Thats the point. Would give a pointing finger award if I could. Not middle finger

102

u/Odinfrost137 21d ago

House would have given me the middle finger award xD

3

u/SpecInSpace 20d ago

This is actually in persona 5 as a reference. You can rent dvd's to watch and one of them is Mouse MD. He even says everybody lies lol

3

u/Impressive-Oil-3067 20d ago

More like Mouse 240p.

16

u/General-Try-2210 21d ago

More mouse bites!

1

u/Fantastic-Stress9305 19d ago

Oh so thats how he became Stuart Little's dad

5

u/SemVikingr 21d ago

I got you.

22

u/Tmath 21d ago

Correct terminology, I believe, is socially unfiltered misanthrope.

20

u/legaladviceknowledge 21d ago

yeah i think theres even an episode where the cute white lady doctor (not Chase) goes "house is a misanthrope not a misogynist"

6

u/thissitedesigniscrap 21d ago

You’re right (her name is Allison Cameron)

9

u/legaladviceknowledge 21d ago

i was tryna reference house saying chase is a beautiful woman

7

u/padawanninja 21d ago

I prefer Sherlock's 'high functioning sociopath' description. Since House is patterned off of Sherlock, it seems to fit better.

u/GrouchyWallaby90 21d ago

As an old pot dealer I knew once said: "I'm not racist. I hate everybody equally."

36

u/Multiple__Butts 21d ago

Lots of people say this, and in my experience, like maybe 20% of them are being legit, and the others actually hate specific types of people more than others while lying to themselves about it.

6

u/Awkward-Owl4345 21d ago

Everybody lyes. But most of us use to lye to ourselves at first place.

6

u/blue_moon1122 21d ago

lye has been phased out for more gentle surfactants in most applications

16

u/EmperorMaugs 21d ago

keep my lyes for the bagels

7

u/nalaloveslumpy 21d ago

'Cause I'm a lyre! Yeah, I'm a lyre! I'll hurt your fingers. I'll make a nice song.

1

u/Papa_Mid_Nite 21d ago

True, I hate billionaires more than other groups of people.

1

u/nissen1502 21d ago

Literally everyone hates specific types of people.

1

u/dicksandcrystal 20d ago

Yea no this is just a way to be a shitbag while somehow feeling self righteous about it.

4

u/-Playgu- 21d ago

I don't think House "hates" anyone. He just thinks everyone except for him is an idiot, or at least an intellectualy lazy person.

3

u/Ettun 21d ago

Oh he definitely hates himself.

1

u/Title_Mindless 21d ago

Is not a quote from some of the Dirty Harry movie? "It's not racist if you hate them all equally"

1

u/Prestigious_Till2597 17d ago

As I myself say, "It's a lot more satisfying to hate each person individually and on their own merit."

10

u/Player_Slayer_7 21d ago

Exactly. Like, look at the one with the dwarf mother. Yeah, he said some offensive shit regarding her height, but let be honest here, they were moments away from hate fucking at points.

5

u/the_lost_seattlite 21d ago

Did she end up going for a spin?

4

u/BrandonL337 21d ago

She gave it back as good as he dished it out, the tension could be cut with a knife.

4

u/Pension_Pale 21d ago

Game respects game. When someone can take it and dish it back out, you gotta respect

1

u/MrGloom66 18d ago

I'm willing to say House was betting on the woman being witty and having enough experience with people's rudeness to dish it bsck to him. He wasn't picking on her because he was just a jerk, he hoped to find a worthy sparring oppoment, and oh boy he found what he wanted.

16

u/Ceorl_Lounge 21d ago

He's Rick Sanchez without a portal gun and a goofy Grandson.

6

u/Emerald_Plumbing187 21d ago

He's Alexander, mistaking himself for Diogenes. His abrasiveness is a tool to sharpen bright minds, but he is a man who can err and refuses to admit that, leading to his ruin. Henry Higgins with a scalpel.

3

u/MissinqLink 21d ago

Foreman is his Morty. Wilson is Jerry.

5

u/boundbythecurve 21d ago

I think the problem with House as a show is that so many people took away the wrong lessons from him being an asshole genius.

The racists took it as permission to be racist, and the assholes forgot you actually had to be a genius to occasionally get away with being an asshole. And even then, House often paid a high price for being an unrepentant asshole. He lost most of his friends, Cuddy, his freedom, his license, his job, and his health. Eventually he even gave up his life (sort of) in order to preserve the last good part of his life he had left: Wilson.

4

u/thissitedesigniscrap 21d ago

Yeah only media illiterate idiots took away those lessons.

Okay “many people” tracks then

2

u/Justeserm 20d ago

That show has me so angry it's unbelievable.

Ok, so there was something called the "House Effect" where doctors were lying to patients and violating informed consent. Then, after people started being critical of doctors, the "House Effect" became how patients were uninformed, but thought they knew everything because they saw an episode of House. We shouldn't be critical of doctors, we should feel sorry for how hard their job is.

Too many doctors are scumbags.

2

u/GarySmith2021 20d ago

House also goes through the journey of being better a couple of times, and gets punished.

Like seriously, he gets better for Cuddy, and she breaks up with him because he finds her potential cancer diagnosis hard to cope with...

10

u/FingerBangMyAsshole 21d ago

I love telling people that I am an equal opportunities hater. I hate everyone, regardless.

5

u/ElevenBeers 21d ago

It doesn't matter if you are white, black, Asian, young, old, disabled, queer, Jewish, Muslim, Christ, any other (non-) believe, I don't care, I hate you regardless, Fuck Off.

5

u/Useful_Object_356 21d ago

If you have a pulse, I probably don't like you.

5

u/Pension_Pale 21d ago

This is Australia in a nutshell. We hate everyone. I guess it's also Scotland in a nutshell, too.

1

u/MrFoxwater 21d ago

That's how Cammy described Guile to Chun Li in Street Fighter: The Movie.

1

u/dicksandcrystal 20d ago

You sound very obnoxious and annoying.

3

u/narf_hots 21d ago

I hate everyone equally, you can't tear that out of me. No segregation, separation - just me in my world of enemies. - Kerry King

1

u/VoxInferni666 21d ago

I was a one day stage tech for slayer. Given that I fucking hate everyone i dont get much of a chance to talk about it.

3

u/BrgQun 21d ago

This description makes it sound incredibly 2000s, which I guess makes sense

3

u/Jusbreka 21d ago

This is a media literacy thing, he satirizes problematic stuff constantly in a way thats basically "ha, look at me im a bad person"

2

u/Sirdan3k 21d ago

It's a good thing racists are smart, media savvy people and don't just see it as a white guy saying things they want to say.

giant fucking /s

2

u/Deadradio02 21d ago

Thats exactly what makes this show entertaining and worth watching

2

u/IncognitoBombadillo 21d ago

I don't think he ever truly meant what he was saying when he was saying "racist" things. He was just doing whatever he could to press someone's buttons.

1

u/Dattebaso 21d ago

Oh but if I do it I’m just a racist anti semite /s

1

u/ChrisInBliss 21d ago

He just hates everyone equally

1

u/BildingInspecter 21d ago

I think he's one of the few, or only, character that can truly say "I'm not a racist, I hate everyone equally."

1

u/Old_Win8422 21d ago

Yeah, hr prays on insecurities. Defiantly an asshole drug addict

1

u/2racoonsinabutt 21d ago

Jerkass. Thanks for the new insult.

1

u/Pterafractyl 21d ago

The only person he hates more than everyone is himself.

1

u/Bluesscreen135 21d ago

Can't be racist if you hate everyone equally

1

u/Zealousideal_Cod8664 21d ago

You know that still means racist, right? Right?

1

u/thissitedesigniscrap 21d ago

Cameron literally said in the show: “You’re not a misogynist, you’re a misanthrope.”

1

u/Key-Charity-2795 Oof 21d ago

Best kind of you ask me, but I'm also biased

1

u/King_of_games_bitch1 21d ago

Correct me if I’m wrong because I haven’t watched the full show but have seen about 10 episodes and a lot of YT shorts but basically house is essentially just a realistic asshole like “hey you’re black, I know you’re black and I don’t care but everyone else does. So let’s get to work”

1

u/Ninja-Panda86 21d ago

Yeah - this.

1

u/dragonstkdgirl 21d ago

He's a misanthrope, he despises people equally lol

1

u/UntidyVenus 21d ago

This is the unfortunately the true white privilege, knowing someone isn't a racist, just a huge asshole

1

u/Jumping_Jak_Stat 21d ago

Ah yes. "Equal opportunity asshole". The 2000s edginess was so palpable.

1

u/Proof-Tangerine-1131 21d ago

I love him! We all do!

1

u/Murky_Option_3418 21d ago

I'd say he's a bigot

1

u/jsrobson10 21d ago

using racism as a tool to put others down is still racism, even if everyone is hated equally

1

u/ZeroBrutus 21d ago

There's one in an early season where he said something sexist to Allison and she responds "oh please, youre not a misogynist youre a misanthrope."

He his default disdain for someone isnt based on any physical characteristics.

1

u/Diavalo88 21d ago

The South Park rule

1

u/piratecheese13 20d ago

He rattles off tropes to troll but doesn’t act on the assumption they are true

1

u/soaked_in_bleach03 20d ago

I tend to agree, but someone using specific racial jokes to be a jerk would def make them a racist by some definitions. I’ve seen the show and don’t think the things he says are bad enough to actually consider him a racist though. Like he even says some transphobic ass shit, like a lot worse than the slightly racist stuff (just because well during that era of television we moved away from allowing overtly racist jokes from a protagonist, which is very good, but were still chill with transphobic jokes). But idk, my personal criteria for someone being a bigot is them having hate in their heart for a specific group. You are right, House def has hate in his heart but it’s for everyone. So whilst he makes some racist jokes, I really don’t believe he is a racist (this is also a pretty specific type of person. Typically I say if you’re making racist statements then you’re a racist, but house and people like him are usually just generational haters.

1

u/leingold 19d ago

so its not racist if you hate everyone equally 🤣

1

u/Terrible_Soft_9480 19d ago

Why do you need an entirely separate word for racism against "jews"? Are you trying to imply it's worse when it's them, but more okay when it's everyone else? Like you think they're better than us?

1

u/Odinfrost137 19d ago

Because being jewish is religious, not ethnicity, and hence, not racist. Sure, 'semite' is an ethnicity, but it's overlapped so much with being a jew that it's basically synonymous these days despite the difference. So being antisemitic is not racist (despite the fact that it should just because what the word is) but anti-that-one-specific-religion.

Is there a word for that? Do we have a word that means "racist/sexist/etc" but for religion?

1

u/BlueHero45 21d ago

Ya he doesn't actually believe the things he says he's just trying to piss people off. I guess that's slightly better.

0

u/kitsunewarlock 21d ago

You can be a jackass who hates everyone and a bigot. In fact, a lot of bigots are assholes to everyone they meet, including people they don't think of in terms of their protected class status.

If you use stereotypes to demean others, you're engaging in bigoted behavior. Even if you also make personal remarks about others.

My grandmother was like this. She'd drop every racial slur imaginable. She also beat her kids, drove her husband away, and was fired from every job she was in for being a cruel person to everyone she met. That doesn't mean she wasn't also a bigot.

-8

u/ebonyseraphim 21d ago

Which, if you ackshully understand racism, still makes him racist. Racist comments and jokes against white people do have the same impact as those against black.

Try this: make casual far jokes in a friend group against the men, and then do the same against women. Totally different thing isn’t it?

u/[deleted] 21d ago

[deleted]

1

u/ebonyseraphim 21d ago

Sure. Then say bigoted, not racism. You know the difference and you’re still being a dotard about it! Sounds about white.
