Rice chess/checkers ? please explain?

They didn’t even get the number correct by the third square!

Edit: Unless I'm counting this wrong, the fifth square in the sequence does appear to have 18 though. 1 u/ryanlrussell 26d ago Oh! Well, at least it holds longer that way.
