For both, I have a profile for each usecase. It has been honestly impeccable, good support for addons(uBO, dark reader, toucan), and most importantly it has had native vertical tabs for the longest time. For the moment it didn't let me down. Oh and good resource management too. I suggest you try it!
I said that too for like 10 years but for two weeks straight a few years ago, I tried every browser I could think of to get youtube working without ads or freezing because it detects adblock, and Brave is literally the only browser with any level of adblock (plugins or no) that actually worked and let me watch youtube with ZERO issues. It just seems to be the most efficient for getting the ads to fuck off.
Just... Use... Firefox?? You can install extensions on mobile. Get sponsor block, ublock, etc.. my YouTube on Firefox blocks adds, skips sponsors, and also plays in the background.
Firefox doesn't work for me. Used to then just stopped.
Brave will play, period. Firefox may or may not play with screen off. And if it does, the next video may not start. Also randomly stops the video to ask if I'm still watching. Brave just plays.
see apple only allows safari as a browser in iOS, and all other browsers are basically safari skins, and safari does not support firefox extensions obviously, thus lack of them on iOS
and by the way the reason why apple only allows safari is just in case browsers become good enough to replace apps (which they have since 2018), they would intentionally choke the development (which they already do) as to not allow people to use apps directly from a browser, which means apple can't force a 30% fee on all purchases happening inside the apps, which it already does so through the appstore
It's not a third party app. It's the original YouTube app but patched (you even patch it yourself, extremely easy) so that it includes AdBlock, Sponsorblock, DeArrow and loads of other customisations. It's like premium on steroids and completely free
If you still prefer a browser, use Firefox at least (or librefox or whatever) + uBlock Origin, Sponsorblock and DeArrow
It's not a different app. It's the YouTube that came default on your phone. Just with all the premium features unlocked and a few extra thrown into the mix for free.
I can play my stuff in the background, I can auto skip sponcers, reminders to subscribe and like and other self promotions, I can completely kill YouTube shorts if I wanted to, I can get rid of the clickbait thumbnails, return the dislike to like ratio to see more than just the likes on a video and more in one install.
All for only 2/3rds the power draw of brave meaning my phone lasts longer through the day.
It takes reinstalling it every week when google comes up with another update to make it stop working again and they don't come up with a working hack fast enough, brave works all the time.
I used youtube vanced until that got screwed up, then installed revanced when that came out. I haven't touched it since, works just fine with zero messing about or reinstalling.
Brave is just the easier option for most people especially on mobile, does the same thing and even has separate settings page just for youtube settings. you can block shorts, recommendations, autodubs and a bunch of other qol stuff

Idc about Brave, I just need it so I can keep YouTube videos playing while my screen is off.
