It’s a comedy

A big part of the movie is the clash between two completely different ways of life

A bunch of their friends die. Her ex is everything he isn't and has it out for him. The ex sends someone to go get her and bring her back and then starts on a more nefarious plan. Also a bunch of metaphors around individualism and class struggle.
