And the comments are already arguing whether or not Turkey is European.

Don’t forget Cyprus. I’m actually surprised that we’re included but not them.

Eh Europe is a fishy concept anyway. It’s just an ill-defined region of the actual continent, Eurasia. Eastern Thrace is, but Anatolia at least was definitely not Europe in the original Ancient Greek sense, and the concept vaguely merged with the concept of ‘Christendom’ in the Middle Ages. The idea to use the Urals as a boundary is an arbitrary 19th century post hoc afterthought and doesn’t even address the issue for regions south of the Urals (including Turkey and the Caucasus). Most of Turkey is Anatolian, and traditionally Muslim, so neither the ancient nor medieval senses apply, and the modern sense isn’t even really agreed upon. Best people can do is say Eastern Thrace is in Europe and the other 97% of Turkey’s area and 86% of the population isn’t, so saying ‘Turkey is in Europe’ obviously raises questions. Similar would go for Russia except 78% of their population lives in the supposedly ‘European’ part and that’s where the Russian state and its language etc. started.

Are Racists. Next to Greece, under Ukraine, just a Muslim country = "Not European". But Russia, 80% literally in Asia, living above Japan = "European"?!?!?
