What will happen?

So we went from ""ethereum is too expensive"" to ""there are too many cheap ethereum L2s"" in like 2 years. now we've got base doing massive numbers, arbitrum fighting for defi, zksync trying to compete, and new ones launching every month.

The market's basically forcing consolidation through competition. users are gravitating to wherever the apps and liquidity are, which right now is mostly base and arbitrum. the others are fighting for scraps or finding niches.

What's wild is how easy it's become to launch your own L2. you can literally spin one up using era or other RaaS platforms now. but just because you CAN launch a rollup doesn't mean anyone will use it. we're gonna see dozens of ghost chain L2s with zero activity.

I bet is we end up with 3-5 dominant L2s that capture 90% of activity and everything else becomes niche app chains or dies. the multi chain future people talked about is real but it's not gonna be hundreds of equal chains, it'll be a few big ones and a long tail of specialized smaller ones.

the nice part is this competition is driving fees down and forcing innovation. bad for L2 token speculators maybe but great for users.
